Computer Testing Now Available for Society of Wine Educators Certification

Think you've got what it takes to be a certified wine educator?

If you do, the process of becoming a Certified Specialist of Wine or a Certified Specialist of Spirits just got a little easier thanks to a computer-based testing partnership between the Society of Wine Educators (SWE) and computer-based testing company Pearson VUE.

“The Society of Wine Educators is thrilled to announce this new partnership, which will expand the reach of our exams and certification opportunities to a world-wide audience,” SWE General Manager Shields T. Hood said in a press release this week.

SWE conducted a considerable amount of research before making their decision about which computer-based training firm they would use.

“The services provided by Pearson VUE offered us the perfect combination of global reach and high-level exam security,” Hood said.

The new computer-based testing option now allows interested wine enthusiasts the opportunity to take the Certified Specialist of Wine test at more than 450 test centers in 100 countries around the world, the release said.
Until the recent developments in computer-based testing, students were able to take a paper and pencil exam.

The new system of test-taking not only offers testing centers worldwide, SWE's website says, but it also gives potential CSW's the chance to choose the time and date of their testing appointment.

According to Pearson VUE's website, students must first be authorized by SWE to take the exam. Once students receive their test authorization, they can schedule their computer-based exam.

Testing sites, Pearson VUE said, are available on a first-come, first-served basis.

Passing the CSW exam is the “mark of a wine professional's commitment to personal career development and ultimately to the wine industry as a whole,” the SWE website says.

The SWE's goal, its site says, “is to foster and promote the professional education and development of the individual in particular, and the professional education and development of the wine industry as a whole.”

The SWE is conducting a webinar this Saturday titled “The Insider's Guide to the CSW”. The webinar is intended to provide information about the CSW program, including the level of difficulty of the test, what it covers and what students can expect. SWE Director of Education Jane A. Nickles will lead the session, SWE's blog reported.

The seminar will include a question-and-answer session between participants and Nickles.
