Rare Collection of Grange Available at Dubai Airport

Dubai International Airport is now home to a prestigious collection of Australia's legendary Penfolds Grange Shiraz. Released this past week, the collection is available at fine wine dealer Le Clos.
The collection is sold as one lot and contains at least one bottle for every vintage in the past 60 years and includes 61 bottles in total. The collection is valued at approximately $57,000.
“(The retailer) has created an innovative proposition for sale, allowing the eventual buyer to admire the unbroken chain of vintages as part of a complete collector’s set, as well as an additional two vintages from each decade, for them to taste and enjoy,” a release about the collections stated.
A bevy of rare and “hidden vintages” are available in the brood of Australian greatness – the 1953 Grange, believed to be one of only a handful of bottles from that vintage; bottles from the clandestine vintages of 1957, 1958 and 1958; the world-class vintages of 1955, 1976, 1990, and 2008.
“The 'hidden vintages' … make this a particularly unique collection for connoisseurs and wine lovers,” the release stated.”
Dubai International's Grange collection also includes the commemorative 2010 vintage launched this past October in celebration of 60 consecutive years of Grange.
“The wines have won numerous gold medals and prestigious accolades, and are highly valued by collectors,” Snooth's Penfolds Grange profile reads. “Bottles from older decades dating as far back as the first ones produced in the 1950s sell for stratospherical prices.”
The wine was transported more than 10,000 km to its new home in the wealthy region's airport. The collection sits in a climate-controlled room which is designed to showcase the wine as the highlight of the retailer's offerings.
The Penfolds Grange display includes a video display in which travelers can watch a video about Penfolds Grange, as well as read facts about the 1951, 1953, 1955, 1976, 1990, and 2008 vintages. According to the release, a microsite is also available online. The site “details the historical time-line and story of Grange for customers to enjoy at their leisure, in the airport or online,” the release stated.
Penfolds chief winemaker Peter Gago said the winery is delighted to have the collection on display in Dubai's airport. He characterized the transit hub as a “crossroads of the world” and an “ideal location to bring the Penfolds Grange story to global consumers.”
