Red Robin's New “Dessert Wine”: The Boozy Red Shake

Get ready for a wine-and-milk shakedown.
Earlier this month restaurant chain Red Robin Gourmet Burgers released a series of new menu items which included the Divalicious Red Wine Shake, “a delectable combination of Little Black Dress Divalicious red wine, Pinnacle whipped vodka, raspberry pureé and creamy vanilla soft serve,” the company said in a press release earlier this month.
The drink is part of the restaurant's holiday launch, in which the company say's their combinations “may sound naughty but sure taste nice!”
Red Robin's release said the red wine shake is “for 21-and-over guests in need of some 'me' time.”
Response to the drink has been varied.
New York Post reporter Hailey Eber wrote the shake was “controversial and divisive” when she and her colleagues tried it earlier this month.
Eber said the shake “is a roller coaster in the mouth: sweet at the start, then a surprising blast of hard alcohol.”
She went on to describe the reactions of her fellow reporters.
“Others were far more positive,” she wrote. “'I love it,' enthused a coworker...'If one of those appletinis isn't girly enough for you, then this will hit the spot.'”
Red Robin's Facebook page featured responses from customers who tried the shake.
Several commenters mentioned their friends in their responses, while others wrote “OMG!!”, “Yummy!” and “I'm gonna try THIS!!”
Should wine enthusiasts be hesitant to try the dessert/wine offspring, Red Robin offers a free wine charm with every wine shake purchase.
The Little Black Dress website provides a description of their Divalicious Red  2010, characterizing it as “accessorized with a well-rounded body, an impressive mouth and a juicy finish of ripe berries and clack cherries.”
The wine is comprised of 38 percent Cabernet Sauvignon, 18 percent Carignan, 11 percent Petitie Sirah, and a remaining combination of several other varietals.
The release of the Divalicious Red Wine Shake isn't the first wine shake to hit the menu at Red Robin. This past spring the inventive restaurant chain released its Mango Moscato Wine Shake, which includes Alice White Moscato, vodka, mango pure and vanilla soft-serve ice cream.
In an interview with USA Today after the release of the moscato shake, one Red Robin executive said, “We're not a big party restaurant. But for a mom to enjoy a wine shake with a burger is reasonable – and fun.”
According to Red Robin's website, the restaurant also offers shakes infused with spirits and shakes infused with wheat beer.
