Clos Lachance Chardonnay Santa Cruz Mountains 2008

Winemaker's Notes:

Wine Tasting Notes This wine opens up with strong aromas of freshly cut green apple, melon and pear. A bowl full of tropical fruit salad (pineapples, bananas, mangos and papaya) is in there, as well as a hint of floral apple blossom. On the palate, the refreshing flavors of crisp apple and fresh citrus are balanced with an acidic component. The finish is fairly long considering that there was no oak used when making this wine. I really enjoy the lingering tropical fruit flavors of pineapple and banana.

Floral, lemon peel, and apple aromas with flavors of white nectarine, peach and citrus. Unoaked.

Rating: 85/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Clean and moderately fruity if tending towards the minerally, almost metallic side of things, in the nose, the wine is pretty much as full on the palate as its partner above. It has a heavier, rounder texture and less overall energy, and it does not use its greater sense of openness to good advantage. In this case, choose the brisker alternative.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Unlikely to improve with further aging.

Rating: 87/100 - As reviewed by Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine (www.cgcw.com) in the October 2010 issue. Focused on the slightly rounded fruit of Golden Delicious apples and filled out by oak and touches of roasted grains, this fairly full-bodied wine sports plenty of firming character underneath, and while not acidy per se, it is very much on the tight side, especially in its noticeably chalky finish. Pair it with PEI mussels removed from the shell and sautéed in butter with shallots, basil and cilantro.Connoisseurs' Guide to California Wine aging recommendation: Drinkable now. Further bottle aging can improve this wine.
