Domaine des Carteresses Tavel Rose 2015

Member Review by CageyT:

Not being very familiar with the world of Rose, this wine has turned my head. All I can say is Fabulous-- meanwhile, I will develop a vocabulary to talk about Rose.

A touch darker in color than most other rosé wines, this lovely blend is highly aromatic due to its limestone-rich soils: fresh-picked strawberries with nuances of lavender, red raspberry and fresh mineral. Delicate on the palate, this is a fantastic warm-weather wine; pairs well with light appetizers and fish.

Rose from Tavel is one of the few rose wines that can improve in the bottle, but this one is completely ready to please right away.Limestone and minerals mix with fresh berries on the nose.Nice density on the palate with balanced spicy white pepper, strawberry and cherry notes.Juicy and tense.

A deep red-pink hue; the nose is delicate, strawberries, mostly. Soft on the palate. Velvety; rich in wild strawberries, raspberries, and sweet herbal notes. A soft acidity helps give this wine a smooth finish, complemented by lingering memories on the tongue.

The main reason for liking this roseacute; is the composition of the grapes used. You have the usual suspects mdash; Grenache, Mourvedre, and Syrah mdash; but some Clairette and Picpoul are thrown in this cuveacute;e, giving it an interesting twist. The Picpoul at 12% adds lushness and viscosity I didnrsquo;t see in many roseacute;s. At first whiff the typical roseacute; petal and lilacs, but when tasting, a scent of freshly ground white pepper emerges that intrigues. Its taste is redolent of spicy cherry, baked custard and bursts of cinnamon. There is enough acidity to brighten up the medium finish. Goat cheese over greens, with fresh strawberries and spiced pecans.

Very deep in color and body for a roseacute;, featuring fresh watermelon, pomegranate and raspberry flavors. This wine has enough stuffing to pair with grilled chicken or salmon.

I have always loved the unique qualities of dry roseacute;s. This one is produced in Tavel, in the Southern Rhocirc;ne region of France. The grapes are primarily Grenache, with Mourvegrave;dre, Clairette, Picpoul and Syrah added to the blend. The beauty of a roseacute; is not only how it picks up flavors from foods, but also how certain foods will bring out the flavors in the wine. Try something spicy with this onehellip; cayenne just makes this wine come alive on your palate. Strawberry, raspberry and other fruits are nicely balanced with subtle tannins. Serve with blackened salmon or spicy jambalaya.

Almost bracing, with cherry pit and watermelon rind notes taking the upper hand on tea, spice and tobacco hints. The long, juicy finish has a nice bitter cherry hint. Drink now.
