This wine had a nice full body, solid structure, long finish but not a lot of tannins. This makes for a wine that is very powerful yet easy to drink. Plenty of flavor to go along with it.

3.25 stars Appearance: deep ruby core Nose: medium+ intensity with aromas of Christmas cake, warm spices Palate: medium+ fine-grained tannins, flavors of Christmas cake, Marischino cherry, medium+ length but the tannins where a distraction on the finish of the wine otherwise I would have scored it higher. The wine should improve with some more bottle aging.

My least-favorite Ripasso, all the punch and fullness of it's brethren without any of the interesting flavor. Too expensive for a daily drinker, too boring for a special bottle.

Terroir: The Santi Amarone is sourced from estate vineyards spread across multiple terroirs of the Valpolicella region. Vinification: Only the ripest recie (ears) of the grape clusters are harvested when full ripeness is achieved in late October. Immediately following harvest the clusters are dried under shelter in flat wood crates until late January of the following year, greatly increasing natural sugar content and concentration. The dried grapes produce a powerful wine with marvelous flavor which is aged up to three years in Allier and Slovenian oak casks prior to release. Additional Information: This Amarone is deep garnet red in color showing intense dry grapes and plums with hints of spices (cloves and cinnamon) cherry jam and iris. Toasted almonds complete the finish.

Santi was founded in 1853 in Illasi, Italy by Carlo Santi. Today, Santi, which specializes in Trentino and Veneto wines, stands in its original location, a beautiful spot just below the ruined medieval fortress of Castello d’Illasi.
