Taittinger Champagne Blend Champagne Comtes de Champagne Rosé Brut 2004

Winemaker's Notes:

The origins of Champagne Taittinger date back to the original house founded in 1734 by Jacques Fourneaux. However its links to the Taittinger family started in 1931 when it was purchased by the founder of today's company; Pierre Taittinger. The Taittinger headquarters are in Reims, situated above magnificent 4th Century Roman cellars which at one time belonged to the Benedictine monks of the abbey of St Nicaise. Its miles of tunnels and cellars are perfect for the slow but necessary ageing process involved in making this great Champagne. The hallmark of the Taittinger blend is the high percentage of Chardonnay it contains, this gives the wines ultimate elegance, delicacy and finesse. This can be anything from 40% in the Brut Reserve NV to 100% in the prestigious Comtes de Champagne Blanc de Blancs and we know through research that it is enjoyed by 'independently minded' people. Comtes de Champagne Rosé Millésimé 2004 is a rich rose colour. The bubbles are extraordinarily delicate and form a wonderfully fine necklace of mousse. The nose is refined, fresh and young, revealing subtle and complex aromas of berries gently combining wild strawberries, morello cherries and blackcurrants. In the background blossoms a hint of fresh almonds and liquorice. The initial fruitiness quickly intensifies on the palate. The mid-palate is rich and structured, with a tannin tartness reminiscent of blackcurrant and red wine poached pears. The generous finish maintains balance and freshness. Still young, but already possessing great class, Comtes de Champagne Rosé Millésimé 2004 has a tannic structure that is becoming rounder and its depth and perfection are still improving. It is a wine for celebration and ceremony and is an ideal accompaniment for fruit desserts such as strawberries, Tarte Tatin or poached pears.

Champagne Taittinger is one of the few remaining family owned and operated Champagne houses. The firm is distinguished for its extensive vineyard holdings of 752 acres, including prestigious Grand Cru vineyards in the Côte des Blancs and Montagne de Reims regions. Unlike most large houses, Champagne Taittinger relies primarily on estate grapes for its portfolio of Champagnes. Also unique are the higher proportion of Chardonnay in its wines that gives Taittinger its signature style, and the time devoted to aging the wines before release—most often greatly exceeding the legal requirement, in a practice that also has become a Taittinger hallmark. Distinguished for its extensive vineyard holdings of 752 acres, including prestigious Grand Cru vineyards. Highest-quality production: exceeding minimum aging for all cuvées, high percentage of estate grapes, sustainable practices. Uses a higher proportion of Chardonnay grapes in its blends than other large houses—Taittinger’s unique personality. Critical acclaim: consistently outstanding (90+) scores, worldwide recognition among connoisseurs Read less
