Tenuta San Guido Sassicaia Bolgheri Sassicaia 2015

External Review:

Sassicaia is a unique interpretation of the Cabernet variety, a wine of great breadth, complexity and longevity. The intense blackberry and cassis aromas, offset by notes of smoke and spice, are confirmed on a palate of lush concentration underscored by firm, ripe tannins carrying into a long, elegant finish.

Intense, concentrated and deep ruby-colored, this wine offers elegant, complex aromas of red fruit. In the mouth it is rich and dense, yet harmonious, with sweet, balanced tannins. The wine has a long finish with a depth and structure that ensure its extr

Just awarded Wine of the Year by Gambero Rosso! Sassicaia is the original Maremma Super Tuscan. It has spurred many followers but few rivals. Every vintage this iconic wine garners lavish praise and big scores. For example the last three vintages rated 97, 95 and 96 from the Wine Advocate alone, not to mention all of the other publications that praised it. 2009 was yet another remarkable vintage in the Bolgheri region of Tuscany which Sassicaia single-handedly placed on the map. Of course masterful winemaking by Consulting enologist Graziana Grassini who follows directly in the footsteps of creator Giacomo Tachis, makes this extraordinary blend of Bordeaux varietals what it is. James Suckling scored it 98 points saying " "This is fantastic. Intense and super long on the palate. It's insanely complex yet subtle with so much going on, with a beautiful balance and tension. It is full and powerful with a big juicy character that goes on for minutes. Muscular yet covered with pretty fruit. Elegance with force. Hard not to drink. But better in 2016." This tightly knit, dense red is full of black currant, cherry, herb and spice flavors. The tannins are aggressive now, but this is long and detailed, with an herb and spice aftertaste. A classy wine. The 2009 Sassicaia is unusually big, rich and opulent. Layers of fruit saturate the palate as the 2009 explodes from the glass with a heady melange of dark berries, plums, menthol, licorice and new leather. This is an especially racy Sassicaia. Readers who enjoy the classicism of Sassicaia are likely to find the 2009 too rich, especially at this early stage. The wine needs at least a few years in bottle to drop some of its baby fat. Despite its huge fruit, the 2009 is also pretty closed down and not anywhere close to being ready to show off its pedigree. Sassicaia is arguably Italys most famous wine, so its always great when it lives up to its reputation. Anticipated maturity: 2019-2039. - Robert Parker 94 Points
