Had this during my engagement dinner, and it was an instant favorite. Rich yellow gold in the glass, the nose is heady, with floral and cedar over fresh fruit. The first taste was an explosion of fruit, mainly peaches and kiwi, followed by some rich nutty flavors and all surrounded by good acidity and toasty oak and vanilla. A big chardonnay. Long finish, if I could find more I would cellar some, but the local wine store is always sold out.

Greenish gold in the glass, nose of apples and fresh citrus. First taste... medium bodied, with a initial rush of apples and tropical friut, light oak, and good acid balance. Finishes nicely, good with seafood and cream sauce pastas, I should think. I will keep a couple in the cellar.

I have only recently begun to delve into the huge world that is California Chardonnay. Frei Brothers Russian River Valley Reserve 2007 is one of my early favorites. The wine has a rich golden color in the bowl, and the aroma of fresh cedar and lemongrass are in the nose. The first taste revealed to me what a "big" chradonnay is like, with layers of green apples and citrus fruit surrounded by buttery, toasty oak. The flavors stretched on for a long finish. I'm also not one to be a slave to traditional pairings, and this Chardonnay went great with my grilled steak, Baked potato, and sauteed green beans.
