I bought this impulsively when I realized I was too cheap to splurge on a good bottle of port. I had no idea what it would be like and in fact, I mostly associated it with old British ladies. It was cheap though, and I noticed several varieties that had 90+ scores from Robert Parker, so I decided to try it out. On the whole, I really enjoyed it. It was -- not surprisingly -- not as good as vintage port, and I was a little worried by its cream soda smell. It didn't really taste like cream soda though, and it had a nice long finish that tasted of coffee and hazelnuts with a few faint notes of chocolate. I feel like most people who enjoy port would probably like this. It doesn't taste the same, but it is pleasing for the same reasons. I could still remember exactly how it tasted this morning, which I think is a sign of something special. It was pretty sweet though, so some people might prefer a different variety of sherry.

When I told the waiter I was underwhelmed by the wine, he got a bit snooty and told me it was made by the most influential wine maker in California and that I'd need to "work hard for it." Whatever. I found it overly fruit forward and too strongly acidic to fully enjoy. The promised "cascade of flavors" did not materialize. I don't think I will try it again.

The velvety texture drew me in with just one sip. Fruits up front with a finish of anise and something like mocha. I am certain I will drink this again.

I've been tempted by this wine's distinctive title for several weeks. When I finally tried it tonight, I found it just wasn't for me. It lives up to its sultry title with a peppery bite that I found overwhelming. The acidity was pretty strong as well, which distracted me from the nice red fruit beginning. I wouldn't say that this is a bad wine, but it's definitely not suited for my personal taste.

Pretty good. Figs up front, sweet and smooth hazelnut finish. Not as complex as a vintage port, but a good compromise between quality and price.
