Tasted with my other half. We were both blown away by the nose of this wine - namely, the notes of COCOA!! along with some ground coffee, leather, and chestnut. More of the same on the palate, with restrained oak and dried fruit/date. Long length and balanced acidity. We both liked this one, and have never really smelled anything else quite like it. As per the producers suggestion (online), we tried it with Iberico cheese and the pairing was indeed great - one of the best wine and cheese pairings I've EVER had, in fact.

Ridiculously great value in this Italian sparkling rose. It's made from 100% Pinot Nero (Pinot Noir) from small lots grown in the Cembra Valley. It's got bright notes of strawberry, white peach and grapefruit and great acidity, all underpinned by some yeasty fresh bread. Medium length - and certainly not super complex, but definitely interesting nonetheless. I think this wine tastes so much more expensive than it really is. It's one of the best values I've found to date in a sparkling wine. I'd recommend trying this one if you can find it.

Fairly fragrant, with lots of blackberry, raspberry and an undertone of something herbaceous. On the palate this one is JUICY, with lots of blackberry, cassis and jam. Also some clove and just a hint of something leathery. Lots of bright acidity. Some lovely subtle notes of vanilla and oak on the finish. Moderate length. Good value here, for sure.

So, here we are, with this affordable Nebbiolo. Clear, translucent ruby colour in the glass that reminded me of Pinot Noir or Beaujolais. This wine was softer and juicier than I expected. Notes of cherry with some raspberry and plum were dominant, although there were still slight leathery notes. More of the same on the palate, with some spice and mint or menthol. Well integrated acidity isn't really as bracing as you see with other Italian wine. Short-moderate length that leaves you with a drying feeling from the tannin. Although it might be a touch lean, this wine still felt fresh, young, approachable and ready to drink now. *FYI - I read that Langhe is a big area that encompasses both Barolo and Barbaresco, so it's easier for grapes to make the cut. That probably explains our lower price point.

REALLY great value in this Italian blend of Croatina, Barbera, and Shiraz. Delicate nose with floral notes and juicy cherry/blackberry. More of the same on the palate - a juicy fruit forward wine with additional complexity from notes of dark chocolate, cracked pepper, and mint. Short to moderate length.Balanced with well integrated acidity that's much more supportive / in the background. A simple wine with enough complexity to feel entertained. It had more soft, well integrated tannin than I expected for such a wine at this price point. I served this with a simple pizza and the pairing was good but not excellent. Next time I'll try this wine with something more substantial.

An unexpected offering from an unexpected place! This wine is made with grapes grown at Clam Bay Farm in Pender Island, BC. The grape variety is Siegerrebe, a german variety that is a cross between Madeline Angevine (a Loire variety) and Gewurztraminer. I've read that Siegerrebe can be a bit of a monster, but evidently this isn't the case in the cool climate of Pender Island. Somewhat similar to gewurztraminer, this is a interesting yet light and easy sipper. It's nearly colorless, with notes of cantalopue, white flowers, and stone fruit. More of the same on the palate with additional complexity coming in, maybe almond or marzipan. Light and soft with well integrated acid. Surprisingly long length. Really enjoyed this one! Will be looking for more offerings from this little winery on Pender Island.

Bright pale yellow colour. Pear, stone fruit, citrus/lime and apple combine with subtle oak and butter notes- lots of fruit well balanced with acidity. Medium-long length and slightly tangy finish.

These guys are a really small winery out in Creston Valley. Their gewurztraminer is one of the most different I've ever had. Right away you notice the colour - a really intense golden pinkish hue. It was fuller bodied and not as crisp as I expected. An intense perfumed nose: telltale lychee with some juicy peach, apricot, pear, and white flowers. More of the same on the palate with sweet almond/marzipan and great mouth watering acidity (kind of like really tart lime leaf). Has a smooth mouth-coating feel (glycerin came to mind) and good length. I really think this is a great wine and very original.
