The 2007 was worth a purchase. Tried the 2008 this year and determined that the new blend was inferior and thus passed on it.

I consumed the bottle as part of my belated Birthday celebration . It exhbits a richness and depth unexpected for its age. A hint of plum and herb on the nose. The tannins that must have been overwhelming when young have softened but not completely. Initial taste of tart cherry, slight herbal, anise and cassis notes, hints of toasted marshmallow and black plum at the finish. I let the wine decant for an hour to let the slight residue settle and to allow it open up a bit. It's tannins were quite evident in the forefront so I let it decant for another hour. This time, the wine presented quite nicely and displayed all the rich tree fruit notes as described above.

This is a very unusual wine from the Nahe Valley of the Paarl region of South Africa. Originating from Germany "Ferdinand Pieroth" aka House of Pieroth has produced what I would characterize as almost a "Late Harvest" Cabernet (chapitalization at its best). None of the bitter tannins you would expect from such a young Cab. It was quite a nice dessert wine in the finest German tradition, retaining many of the berry and chocolate notes that make a Cabernet Sauvignon great as a dry French Bordeaux or Napa Red.
