I'm a writer, though if you guessed that doesn't pay my bills -- congrats, you win! Am currently working through my waiting tables phase for a vineyard/wine bar in the rapidly expanding world of Virginia viticulture.

Gorgeous balance of structure and smoothness with 42% Cab Franc, 42% Merlot, and 16% Petit Verdot. Dark cherries rise out of the glass, tempered by depth and a not-too-heavy body.

Like the 2009 a touch better, but still a strong Bordeaux style blend.

Wham, bam! VERY impressive from start to finish. The nose is powerful, impossible to ignore with a complex and intriguing combo of smoke, barnyard earthiness, and black fruit. The palate follows through, adding hearty punches of acidity and a firm grip.

Blows their newer vintages away. Great example of the benefits of aging, particularly with Sangiovese. Everything has softened, mellowed, settled and deepened to one rich, harmonious wine. Cannot wait to open my next bottle!

While all Virginia Chardonnays are light and floral, this particular vintage has very perfumey notes from Muscat blended in. It does see some oak in the beginning to smooth everything out and give it a nice, round mouthfeel, no secondary malolactal fermentation leaves it light on the palate.
