Best wine to pair with hotdogs?

Last weekend some friends and I grilled a few hotdogs and were in a debate about the best wine pairing.  We ended up with a bottle of pinot grigio I had in the fridge.  I enjoyed the pinot grigio with the meal, but would anyone recommend a better pairing?

  • I think a nice dry rose would have been nice.  Also a lighter Pinot Noir.  I would think that the Pinot Grigio would be too light to stand up to the hot dog, but it's a pairing I've never tried so it may be great!

    • 2Mark Angelillo I would tend to agree - the Pinot Grigio might be washed out by the saltiness and strong flavors of the 'dog.

  • Hot dogs are alittle fatty, a little smoky, and a lot delicious. I would look for a lighter styled wine that sees a touch of wood. A gently oaked Barbera sounds good here as does a nice Rioja Crianza or maybe even a Rioja Rose Reserva!
