Can I just assume all wines from Oakville, California are oakey?

I am putting together some wine notes on a 2009 Mondavi Chardonnay that hails from Oakville, CA.

Does anyone know the percentage of how many of the wines grown in this region of Napa Valley actually taste "oakey" or are "aged in oak?"

  • Most of the vines in Oakville are cabernet, with a few other varietals sprinkled in, including chardonnay. Both of these varietals will see some time in oak, and I'm sure some of the other wines will too. But I wouldn't guess on an actual percentage.
