Leyda Valley Wine

The Leyda Valley is the best known area of production in the San Antonio Valley in Chile. The reason for this is largely attributed to the fact it was the first planted area and also because the region's original source of irrigation, making viticulture possible in the valley, is here.

Leyda is known for crisp, mineral driven whites with high acidity levels and distinct aromatic quality.

Its proximity to the ocean and thin, rocky soils comprised of decomposed granite and red clay offer perfect growing conditions for Chardonnay, Sauvignon Blanc, and Pinot Noir, and more recently Syrah. San Antonio also grows small plantings of Riesling and Gewurztraminer which are not common in the rest of Chile, but show great potential in this area.

  • Vina Leyda Chardonnay 2013

Classic Chardonnay on the nose with well judged oak adding vanilla and spice note to the core of pineapple and citrus fruits that pick up a touch of mango with air. A leading edge of creamy richness quickly gives way to tart acids that drive the green apple, pineapple, and lime flavors across the palate. This has some heft to it but the great ac... Read More

  • The Show Pinot Noir 2011

Three thieves winery? Wha...da...hell... they stole all the good pinot and replaced it with this... Nose was pretty good, dark berries and cassis but muted. Missing a bit of a kick in the nostrils. Slightly bitter taste with a mildly acidic finish. Definitely not a "Show" stopper but not bad for a daily drinker. Read More

  • Vina Leyda Sauvignon Blanc Classic Reserve 2012

Pungent and spicy on the nose with subtle layers of green chile, pineapple and tarragon aromas. Bright and direct, this turns slightly rich on the mid-palate with plenty of material and perhaps a little sugar buffering the significant acidity. The backend sees the acidity popping out to the detriment of the modest fruit which mostly washes away ... Read More
