Saint-Estephe is a Bordeaux appellation that was created in 1936 [although viticulture in the area goes back centuries] for red wines only from the single commune around the village of that name in the north of the Medoc peninsular. Although the regulations do not dictate the proportions of the six red Bordeaux grape varieties the wines tend to be dominated by Cabernet Sauvignon. There were five classed growths in the 1855 classification including two excellent second growths: Ch. Montrose and Cos d’Estournel. There are also 35 cru bougeois estates

  • Château Calon-Ségur Red Bordeaux Blend Bordeaux Rosé Rosé de Calon 2008

    Snoothrank:

The 2008 Calon-Segur is from a "normal" vintage; that is, the acidity is more traditional for Saint-Estephe. This is a silky smooth, mature wine with fine cedar, blackberry and cherry, cured tobacco on entry, with soft, diminishing tannin on the finish. Elegant and Epicurean, this wine is a third growth, but has the mouthfeel of a "super secon... Read More

  • About 3 cases of 2015 Bordeaux of varying provenance within the district.  I happen to be a fan of white Bordeaux as well, and you can assume about a case of that divine liquid in this mix.  I have been avoiding most wines above 100 dollars US because (a) they are usually, if not almost always, overhyped and over-scored - as well as sold too soo... • Chateau Lilian Ladouys St. Estephe 2012

    Snoothrank:

True to the 2012 vintage overall - especially for the Medoc - this wine has a bright cherry nose and colour (glass rim), and is deliciously modest in offerings of black cherry, a hint of less-than-sweet vanilla, perhaps, and oaken wood staves. Finish is medium with youthful tannin. Best for early drinking with light meats. 87. Read More

  • Château Capbern-Gasqueton Red Bordeaux Blend St. Estèphe 2010

    Snoothrank:

The 2010 Capbern-Gasqueton (with a very famous neighbour) is a very worthy St.-Estephe; the nose is very Bordeaux with a cedar shavings, cherry and blackberry nose.Drinking very well just now, this wine will last at least another decade; with a wonderfully inky Cabernet Sauvignon flavour profile... fir needles and blackberry. A fine wine indeed.... Read More

  • Attempting to gauge the value of 1982 St. Estephe (Chateau Montrose) that has no guarantees of proper handling over its lifetime. Any thoughts. GRIK
