In the south of the Cotes de Beaune in Burgundy there is a slope known as 'Mont Rachet' [bare mountain] between the villages of Puligny and Chassagne[ both of which have appended 'Montrachet' to their names The Chassagne-Montrachet appellation was originally created for white wines only in 1937 but extended to reds as well in 1970 and refers to the two communes of Chassagne-Montrachet and Remigny.. It has two Grands Crus that it shares with the village of Puligny-Montrachet, which are Batard-Montrachet and Le Montrachet, and one Grand Cru of its own, Criots-Batard-Montrachet. All of these produce only white wine. There are also 50 premier cru sites producing both red and white wines

  • Olivier Leflaive Chassagne Montrachet 2014

Unlike the winemaker notes' description, I found this Chardonnay unremarkable, somewhat bland, and with little aroma. I have had less expensive wines from Olivier Leflaive and other Chardonnays with much more power and resonance. Read More

  • BLM, what are you setting next to it as backup?  ;-) A friend asked ... a couple of Olivier Leflaive Chassagne Montrachet premier crus (Les Chaumees and Les Vergers, a 2010 and 2012 each). Dessert to be a couple bottles of 1996 Chateau Guiraud sauternes, and some yet-to-be-clarified spirits. If I know him he'll probably sneak a couple of Didie... Read More
