Meursault is an appellation created in 1970,although there has been viticulture here since at least the Romans, for red and white wines [ though 98% are white chardonnay] from the commune of that name on the Cote de Beaune section of Burgundy’s Cote d’Or. It does not contain any Grands Crus sites , but is nonetheless extremely famous for its 19 Premier Cru vineyards such as Les Perrieres, Les Genevrieres, and Les Charmes. Five of those Premier Cru vineyards in the north known as the Santenots and trotaling 30 hectares also form part of the Volnay appellation and use the Volnay-Santenots designation for red wines. Another four of the Premier Cru vineyards in the south can also use the Blagny appellation for red wines A little red Meursault is made as well.

  • Domaine Patrick Javillier Meursault Clos du Cromin 2017

Pale yellow color. Lightly fruity nose. Light fruit on the tip of the tongue--lemon, kiwi. Nice refreshing tartness. Some caramel, To the American palate, this is a fairly light Chardonnay. Interesting retronasal sensation under the rear palate suggesting baking spice. Read More

Was at the Greenbrier main dining ... remember, and one to add to Meursault/Lobster, and Red Burgundy/Duck.The 2012 Bourgueil was more on the elegant, finessed side, though not without a solid core to it. In this case the food took center stage, and the wine gave it good compan Read More

  • Great vineyard, average producer, though many swear by Girardin and they are known to be better at making whites as opposed to reds.Vintage is not typical for white burgundy, hot year, so many lack average acidity. If you like a richer, fatter style, while still complex, you may enjoy it quite a bit. I have been loving 2011 white burgundies, als... Read More
