Duche d'Uzes,a name that refers to the old dukes of Uzes, was promoted from a Vin de Pays to full appellation status in 2012. The appellation is for red, rose and white wines made of Rhone valley blends from 78 communes around the small medieval town of Uzes which is located about 12 miles west of Avignon. In spite of covering a fairly large area there are less than 300 hectares under vine. There is a legend that in the medieval era the Bishop of Uzes used to give out free bottles of this wine to married couples who never argued!
