Umbria is a wine region tucked in central Italy, surrounded by Tuscany, Latium and the Marche.
It’s best known for its white wines, particularly Orvieto, produced from the Trebbiano (here sometimes called Procanico) grape. However, there are also several IGTs out of Umbria, which allow wine-makers to experiment with different grapes, often international varieties, blends and aging techniques.

Reds are often comprised of Sagrantino (the local celebrity red), Canailo, Sangiovese, Montepulciano, Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot and Pinot Noir.
Styles of Umbria IGT are rosso, bianco, rosato, frizzante (lightly sparkling), passito (sweet) and Novello (young, in the style Read more »
