North Coast Wine

The North Coast AVA is a region that spans eight counties and dozens of prestigious subregions within California. The Pacific Ocean creates cooling air and fog conditions that benefit quality grapegrowing. Most of the wines produced in the area use their own subregion on the label, so wines labeled North Coast are often ones made with a blend of grapes from different parts of the region.

The North Coast is further subdivided into the following regions:
Humboldt County
Lake County
Marin County
Mendocino County
Napa County
Sonoma County
Solano County
Trinity County

  • Deloach Vineyards Pinot Noir Russian River Valley 2016

    Snoothrank:

A very respectable low-dollar PN. Pretty garnet color. Red cherry on the tip of the tongue, Initial "sweetness" is ameliorated by nice, tart acid.Quite light-bodied, A touch of heat under the rear palate. Read More

  • Greg, nice write up, thanks for sharing and glad to hear you enjoyed your trip!  Now you have me wanting to go.Looks like you were able to taste a couple of 2014s, is that normal for a BC winery tasting or were these some of their library wines? There is a good bit of Vidal here on the East Coast but in my opinion it gets better the farther north... • Myriad Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2016

    Snoothrank:

A lot of up front fruit--blackberry. It gives the impression of being a tad sweet. Normally, I would view that as a negative. Under the mid- rear- palate I get an unsweetened chocolate sensation that makes me think this is a real wine. Approachable now, but will, most assuredly keep for years. Read More

  • It wasn't cold, but it was raining a lot. Everyone said it was really strange and not normal. When the rain stopped it was absolutely beautiful. I asked about flowering, etc., but nobody seemed too worried. I think it's a west coast thing though - I heard the other day that this is the coolest and wettest spring on record in the LA area. At leas... Read More

  • So on a whim we decided to visit British Columbia. But we flew up to Washington, so visited a few places there too. Totally off the subject of wine, I found an awesome bakery in Spokane and the girl there served me this thing that I thought was a kind of Parmesan cheese foam. In fact it was fermented cashew whip, which was definitely weird, but ... Read More

  • Once & Future Frank's Block Teldeshchi Vineyard Zinfandel 2015

A very satisfying wine. Red berries--raspberry, cherry--on the tip of the tongue but, also, stone fruit--plum. A mid-palate suggestion of anise. Nice refreshing acid, but not to the point of tartness, Read More

  • Lagier Meredith Syrah 2014

    Snoothrank:

Big mouth-filling wine. Quite viscous. Some tart cranberry on the tip of the tongue, but, then, it becomes very savory. Drink now or hold. I just don't think you can go wrong with this one. Read More

  • Quivet Cellars Napa Valley Cabernet Sauvignon 2014

    Snoothrank:

Dark plum color in the glass. Dark fruit on the nose, although, with a hint of alcohol. As expected lots of black fruit on the tip of the tongue--cassis and blackberry, most notably. Leather, and, maybe, tobacco mid-palate. Very nice, sturdy tannins. Read More

  • Bedrock Wine Co. Chuy Chardonnay Moon Mountain District 2017

    Snoothrank:

Very pretty deep straw color. Fairly big nose--oaky bouquet, tropical fruit aromas. Noticeable caramel is followed by tropical fruit--pineapple, kiwi--on the tongue. The "Tropical Fruit" descriptor tells you that there is plenty of acid in this one. That's probably why I like it Read More
