Columbia County is within the Hudson River Valley in New York. While the Hudson River Valley is a historic wine-producing region, Columbia County is fairly new on the scene. Hudson-Chatham Winery is its first commercial vineyard, open since 2007. Since then, a handful of others are starting to crop up. The cool climate is well suited for North American/French hybrids such as Seyval Blanc and Baco Noir, as well as Gewürztraminer, Riesling, Chardonnay, and Pinot Noir. Wineries also offer fruit wines such as plum wine, liqueurs such as Cassis, and ciders.

  • Chateau Ste Michelle Columbia Valley Pinot Gris 2017

    Snoothrank:

A hosting gift from the Leathead's for Powers, 50th party. I really thought it was equivalent to a Pinot Grigio from Northern Italy. Read More

  • Garrison Creek Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Very pleasant wine, Lots of read fruit on the tip of the tongue--cherry, raspberry. This is in stark contrast to my usual CS experience where I get black fruit. Noticeable acid makes the fruit even more bright. A nice, easy to drink wine, but not one that I would pair with a grand dinner. We're having grilled burgers, tonight, and I'm very ... Read More

  • Silverlake Columbia Valley Cabernet/Merlot 1998

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine from the website www.bidforwine.co.uk/auctions/show/139183 for only £1 as I was the only bidder. It is fromj the state of Washington on the west coast of the United States. It is a blend of 60% cabernet sauvignon and 40% merlot. I started it last night with my supper of meat pie. There is certainly plenty of fresh bla... Read More

  • Garrison Creek Cellars Syrah 2013

    Snoothrank:

Attractive dark plum color. Dark fruit nose. Not as much fruit on the tip of the tongue as I would have guessed from the nose. Very nice. Quite stiff tannin, and good acid. I like this wine, but I think it needs more time for the various factors to integrate. Read More

  • Drink Washington State Carmenere Walla Walla Valley 2014

    Snoothrank:

Fruit forward and fresh with black cherry and blackberry aromas and bright cherry blossom notes. This is surprisingly full and bright on the palate with loads of fruit notes, mostly mixed berry, blueberry and cherry fruit with puckering acidity, chewy tannins and a punchy chocolate cherry finish. • L'Ecole 41 Pepper Bridge Vineyard Apogee 1998

    Snoothrank:

For being nearly old enough to vote, this wine seems quite vibrant, with a lovely garnet color in the glass with just a hint of amber at the edges. The nose presents aromas of leather, cedar, oak and just a hint of musty peat reminiscent of a classic Bordeaux "funk." The taste brings forth some bright fruit flavors of blackberry and cherry col... Read More

  • L'Ecole 41 Apogee Pepper Bridge Vineyard Proprietary Red 2000

    Snoothrank:

I let the wine decant for about 90 minutes before pouring. The wine is a nice ruby color in the glass, with just a bit of opacity. The nose presents aromas of leather, blackberry, plum and a hint of forest floor. The taste presents surprising flavors of cherry cola up front that transitions nicely to some notes of mocha, nutmeg and baking spi... Read More
