  • Montalcino is a beautiful medieval hilltop village just 40 miles south of Siena, on the ancient roadway to Rome. It is dominated by a castle, called La Fortezza, which doubles as an enoteca and wine shop. La Fortezza offers most of the wines of the zone, plus older vintages, as well as honey, olive oil, jams and the like. It also offers a breath... Read More

  • Despite having been a center of viticulture since the Roman era, it could be argued that the wines of Chablis have never had such cachet among wine geeks as they do right now. As more and more wine lovers have the chance to try older vintages of these steely, austere, and mineral-driven Chardonnays from Burgundy’s northwestern corner, more of th... Read More

  • In the coming weeks I’ll be writing up my experiences at ProWein 2014, the great Wine and Spirits show held in Dusseldorf Germany each year. This trade show, and it is just that, exclusive to the trade and that rule is strictly enforced, is one of the great experiences wine professional can indulge in each year. • While traveling through Napa Valley last month I noticed that all the Vineyards I visited had roses planted around their crops. They're planted and watched closely for any early signs of infestation on the land. They monitor the Roses closely and upon early signs of problems, protective measures are taken to make sure the grape vines receive a s... • I absolutely love wine. Snooth is one of the reasons I love the mystique of wine because it  offers me a forum to discuss wine and all of it's nuances, it's history, it's wonder, it's character, it's beauty. I work very hard at my profession even though I have scaled it down to 3 days per week. After my work I love good food and love to imbibe i... Read More

  • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  • Earlier this year, Nathan Myhrvold's guide to molecular gastronomy "Modernist Cuisine: The Art and Science of Cooking" was released with much fanfare. Of course, if you're going to release a $625 6-volume set about esoteric cooking techniques in a down economy, you better push that fanfare button, and hard. While much of the book will be rarely u... • One topic leads to another! How many of you think cork taint is less common than it was a few years ago? I think things have gotten better and I know of at least one cork broker who has a method of purging the TCA out of the corks before delivery. Plus, they work with a very sophisticated wine lab and the QC is much better. What do you think? Read More
