Corks Out Stockton Heath was established in 2003 by Ruth Yates offering superb wines and spirits and great service with outstanding knowledge and enthusiasm and has quickly built up a loyal following of customers. A second Corks Out branch quickly followed, located in the middle of Chester, in a beautiful vaulted medieval cellar that has sold wine under many names for more than 300 years. The crypt was built by the Sixth Norman Earl of Chester in the 12th century and the remarkable stone vaulted building on Watergate Street is an architectural attraction for visitors as well as those seeking to buy good wine. – Description from markomkc

  • You can't tell by looking at it that your favorite wine is about to betray you. You didn't do anything wrong. You fought your way through rush hour crowds to procure it, you chose a food pairing that's a love letter to its aromas and curves. But when you go to have that first glass of it, annoyance strikes. The cork snaps off in the neck, or wors... Read More

  • April in Paris is wonderful, but for someone who loves Champagne, April in Reims is even better. Because April is when this city, home to a splendid cathedral and many of the most prestigious Champagne Houses such as Krug, Veuve-Clicquot, Roederer and Pommery, is abuzz with Le Printemps des Champagnes. Now in its tenth year, this five-day event ... Read More

  • Mark, if you haven't already, next time you're in Napa set up a tasting with Carole Meredith & Steve Lagier.  You taste at their house on top of Mt. Veeder overlooking their vineyards. Great people, great wines and one of the most educational wine experiences I've ever had, oh yeah, the view doesn't suck either. On another note, we were invited t... Read More

  • Funny, now that you mentioned it they look like cork UFO's.   That's my mouse pad, it was nearby and used as a background.   A little rant here.....taking cork out of wine bottles is like taking bibles out of churches, motors out of Indy cars, or doctors out of hospitals.  Long live corks! • It isi true there is a synthetic cork out there and I don't them at all.  DV is kidding about stripping cork the and killing the tree - they go for decades and decades of course.  Cork taint and Brett in the cellar are 2 different animals and I sort of mislead you.Cork taint is obviously from bad corks - Highway 12 had a problem a couple of year... • Just opened a new bottle and noticed maybe Lindeman's does have a cork after all.  A while back I tried some other blend wine and maybe that was where I noticed the fake cork, or maybe Lindeman's experimented with the fake cork at one time,  not sure.  In any event, will have to start looking for a blend with a cork cuz it doesn't look like Lind... • On the last night of Nebbiolo Prima, something quite unusual happened: we left the area of Barolo and drove thirty minutes south, to the township of Dogliani, where nebbiolo is not grown. While this did seem a bit odd at first, there were a few good explanations for it: This year, the annual event sponsored by Albeisa that focuses on the new rel... Read More

  • "The wine business in the U.S. has spent almost 100 years teaching us that we have to buy wine in a 750 ml bottle with a cork, and you don’t undo that overnight."That's wrong of course - the standard was set at 750ml in the US only in 1979. The Europeans standardized on that to get into the US market, which as you know wasn't all that big at the... Read More

  • Obviously, storage facility/apparatus.  Also, of course, glasses.  Other than that, just a bunch of corkscrews.  I am giving serious thought to investing in one of those high-dollar Durands.  I'm getting tired of dealing with crumbling corks on older wines, and it looks like the Durand may help a lot.Oh, I just thought of a couple more things.  ... • A great local wine store that seems to stock a wide range of interesting wines. Also has these great sampling machines that I haven't seen anywhere else that make it a bit of a wine bar as well. Awesome!
