  • Yep, you're right DM - I left out fishing! Fishing was my favorite pastime throughout my teens and I'm just now picking it up again - after 30 years!  I can't believe how light the reels and rods have gotten! But back to wine and yes California, particularly in the Central Coast, gets little precipitation.  Many vineyards out there remain dry-far... • Hi, I'm Bruce.  I'm a UC Davis graduate of enology (26 years ago..alas) and have recently joined Snooth.  I was a former winemaker and enologist at two wineries on Long Island during the 1990s and am now semi-retired in Sarasota, FL.I'm still working in the wine trade, part-time in retail, but otherwise retired.  I'm still active in wine and eno... • RC - Oh, those aren't my cats, they are rescue cats that I work with on Cat Tuesdays.  There are about 30 cats in total at three pet stores that I visit on this day, starting with PetCo in Burke, Chico's Pet Depot in Falls Church and then PetSmart in Springfield Virginia.  I try to get a good picture of each cat and then post it on Facebook.  Th... • Yesterday (Friday) was a busy one.  We started off with lunching in the Mosaic district again since I needed my glasses adjusted; we dined at Brine again, one of Sandra's favorite restaurants in that area.  She had some kind of yellow-fin tuna tar-tar, while I had fish & chips.  We both enjoyed a glass of white wine, mine being an Albarino.  I d... • If I had a Twitter account, I'd probably remind all my friends to drink French today.  (Funny how I don't really celebrate Italian independence day, or Republic Day, or the anniversary of the unification of Italy, which unluckily for it falls on March 17.)  Not trying to get too political, so let's just say that France certainly has a big impact... • Interestingly enough, was an offer from our friend Ian Cauble that falls right within this thread's discussion:  Massimo Clerico, Nebbiolo, Lessona DOC Piedmont, Italy 2008 If there is one lesson that is common amongst all the great red wines of the world, it is that nothing can substitute for optimal bottle age. You can decant a young wine t... Read More

  • Planning to do some exploring into Italy's other wine varietals, those without the fanfare or popularity of Sangiovese, Nebbiolo, Barbera, and Dolcetto, etc.First up is a Ruche with a few years bottle age by Montalbera, apparently a lighter wine that was traditionally brought out for special occassions...figure this should make for a nice aperti... • Among the sparklers, Jacquesson's GVS beat out the Schramsberg BdN, though I like both wines. Good comparison since the Jacquesson was 55% PN and 45% chard. Not a version that they produce any more, to my knowledge. I really like that house and used to drink cases and cases of it last decade, including that vintage. Zero chaptalization, extended...
