Welcome to the world of grower champagne. If you're into your champagnes the chances are that you will have heard of Champagne Vilmart. It was our introduction, in the early nineties, to Laurent Champs, who now runs Champagne Vilmart, that made us realise that there's more to Champagne than the big names that we're all so familiar with. Pierre Larmandier was President of a group called the 'Jeunes Viticulteurs de Champagne' and it was he who recommended John to Christophe Mignon, in Festigny in the Marne Valley, and Emannuel Pithois in Verzenay, on the Montagne de Reims. • I used to spend a LOT of time on snooth, but a job assignment took me away for awhile.  I am seeing some new faces, and some old.  As one who is catching up, I would like to hear from some new people here.   I think/hope we all share not only a love for wine, but a desire to share our experience.  Welcome, new Snoothers! • Sadly I did Not. I had a busy weekend that involved wine, but sadly that was mostly inventorying, packing, and moving wine around the state of NY! Got about a dozen cases moved closer to home, so now I'm pretty well set for the next few months of drinking! Next bottle up looks like it might very well be 1987 Dunn Napa Valley. Funny how Dunn was ... Read More

  • Living in Sonoma County my cellar is pretty Cali-Centric. I mean in an earthquake it just may break off and fall into the Pacific Ocean. So tonight I'm going with something completely different. I picked up an El Nido Clio 2008 that I'm giving a test drive to see if I want more. Anything other than California wine or Rhones and I am treading on ... Read More

  • A thread on another category inspired me to look this one up and write it out, because it's from Ben Franklin.  Who was pretty smart, and woulda been a Snoother had he lived to these days of the internet.  Well before Mr. T. Jefferson went to Paris, Franklin already had a great collection of wine, over a thousand bottles (the biggest percentage ... Read More
