For the business owners, most of our leisure time was spent exploring and educating ourselves about wine and spirits. Jill and Shane Kissack were married in 2001 in a small Michigan winery, Heart of the Vineyard. They developed the In Fine Spirits retail store in 2004, because they love living in the Uptown/Andersonville neighborhood and recognized a need for a local wine shop. The idea for the wine & spirits bar started in 2007, when Jill and Shane partnered with Johnnie Grozenski and Paul Hasenwinkel to develop the concept. All four partners are excited to bring this concept to the north side of the city. – Description from Dragac

  • No wine isn't going away, but DV - you associate with a rare and sophisticated group of people. Most of us are just poor proles who hang out at the local shot-and-a-beer joint, and for us, wine is either red or white and not much beyond. It is true that wine sales are fine, but his point was that on a daily basis, he sees who is buying what and h... • So on a whim we decided to visit British Columbia. But we flew up to Washington, so visited a few places there too. Totally off the subject of wine, I found an awesome bakery in Spokane and the girl there served me this thing that I thought was a kind of Parmesan cheese foam. In fact it was fermented cashew whip, which was definitely weird, but ... Read More

Wine menu planning is a fun exercise but sometimes the rigors of workaday reality get in the way of our good time. And when it comes to wine, price doesn’t need to indicate how much you care. Wine is o... Read More

  • A few days ago I participated in a tasting/pairing event that featured white wines. One of the wines was Chablis, and, while discussing this one, the facilitator stated that it was fermented in steel and had never seen oak.  I asked if that was common for the region and he responded that it was absolutely the case, and was so for all white wines... • Had a conversation some time ago with GregT about teas. I'm as much a connoisseur of them and coffee as I am about wine, and these days drink a lot more of them than of wine.Let's be frank. Starbuck's and Tully's blow. Not so much 25+ years ago as now. They're the McDonald's of coffee these days. Peet's is a little better, but that's all. One th... Read More
