  • The golden wines of Bordeaux are a sweet force with which to be reckoned. While Sweet Bordeaux white wines are revered for quality they’ve been pigeonholed as “dessert wines”. This is beginning to change. I do not mean to imply that these wines are completely unsuitable for dessert. It would be folly to make the suggestion. What I wish to illumi... Read More

  • They're full of syllables, history and intrigue, and they're fast becoming one of the favorite dark-horse wines of the year.  This past Saturday, The Washington Post reporter Dave McIntyre presented a well-worded defense of the validity of Georgian wines as formidable quaffers for the Western world. • Al, I enjoy your restaurant/wine bar stories--especially, the pics and, especially among the pics, the food pics.  That flatbread from the July 10 posting is truly wonderful looking. The wine list pics are OK but, more often than not, really don't intrigue me.  However, the menu pic immediately above really gives me a chuckle.  I notice that the ... • Intrigue Riesling 2014

The 2014 edition of Intrigue Riesling has interesting and complex nose of anise, lime and sharp, cooking apple. Entry has a hint of musky apple with a slightly off-dry finish. Very Okanagan, but also very Riesling. Should pair well with San Francisco Chinese fare. A little bit of a let down from the previous vintage. 86 points. Read More

  • Opened on our anniversary last Thursday. Based on a bottle tasted a couple years ago, I wasn't too excited about this, seemed a little simple then. However, when we opened this, I was pleasantly surprised, a little more complexity and a lot more bite than I had expected. This wine is so clearly not yet at peak, and it's interesting how evident t... Read More

  • Not criticizing. Just saying that reading old world labels is not nearly as clear cut and dry as reading new world labels.Sorry, my bad. I completely misinterpreted your original post. I then started another lengthy epistle on some of your other statements, but then realized that I was getting wrapped around the axle regarding some silly things.... • Hi all,Just want to introduce myself. I have recently started taking an interest in wine and have come to the point where I want to start learning more about it. At this point I can identify which lines I like, and which I don’t, but I really hope to be able to take it a step further and understand what makes it so that I like certain wines and ... Read More
