  • Garrison Creek Cellars Cabernet Sauvignon Walla Walla Valley 2013

    Snoothrank:

Very pleasant wine, Lots of read fruit on the tip of the tongue--cherry, raspberry. This is in stark contrast to my usual CS experience where I get black fruit. Noticeable acid makes the fruit even more bright. A nice, easy to drink wine, but not one that I would pair with a grand dinner. We're having grilled burgers, tonight, and I'm very ... Read More

  • Yes, perhaps a bit overly ambitious.  This year will likely be a a transition period. I plan to soak up some fermented grape juice later in the day, potential interruptions not considered.Very quiet on this site of late.  Just think: we few feel like we have a private blog (although I am well aware we do not). Z/M Read More

  • Rivers-Marie Cabernet Sauvignon Napa Valley 2016

    Snoothrank:

Lots of dark fruit on entry--blueberry, currant--and the slight sweetness sensation might suggest dried fruit. I'm a tad surprised that a wine this young isn't "rougher." Tannin is observable. Acid is observable. However, the wine is approachable in its youth. I get some roughness under the rear palate, but nothing to worry about. Read More

  • It is curious how we see lobbyists succeed in essentially bribing congress to follow these protectionist policies (if I may call them that) in favour of monopoly - which are in blatant restraint of trade - but cannot find ways (other lobbyists in this instance) to break up obvious monopolies as was successfully achieved during the Progressive Er... • We need to try those DV!!Tonitght it's Skylark 2013 Grenache, Mendocino County. Lots of cork problems and I wrote to them about it. They acknowledged the issue and said they had a problem in 2013 and dumped their cork supplier. They also offered to make the wines good, but they're not big producers and I wasn't going to push it, although I appre... Read More

  • Ceritas Pinot Noir Porter-Bass Vineyard 2012

    Snoothrank:

Similar to my previous tastes. Very light-bodied red wine. Red berries on the tongue. Some acid tartness, but that is diminishing, An OK wine, but I'm just as satisfied taking it out of storage and giving that spot to another. Read More

  • Don't know. I'm not sure how to answer Duncan's question but if it's not the national sport, it's a thrilling pastime for many!Zuf - I think what happens is that you don't want your main customer to get bigger than you are. There's an interesting story I read once about a pickle company - Vlasic. They were a midwest company that made sliced and ... Read More

  • A bit late but did anyone note that the SC made a ruling on wine sales last week? The issue was a Tennessee requirement that if you wanted to open a retail store, you had to have lived in the state for ten years. A guy wanted to open a Total Wine franchise and was denied, so he sued.Tennessee Wine and Spirits Retailers Association v. Russell F. T... Read More
