Napa Valley Wine & Cigar was located in Bel Aire Plaza for 12 years prior to our move in Feb 2008. The shop is owned by Randy & Carrie Bowman. Carrie is a veteran in the restaurant, bar and service industry. Each year she has expanded the selection of wine, cigars and accessories to accommodate our customers. On the wine side she has added more of the well known wines as well as an excellent selection of small production and boutique wines of great character and value. Carrie tastes each of the wines, choosing those of value, those she herself likes and those that have the characteristics requested by our regular customers. As you see by our web site, we are heavy on California, Washington, Oregon and Australia. We carry few French, Italian and Spanish wines but their numbers are slowly increasing. We strive to keep our prices low and competitive so our customers have an opportunity to try some of the wines we ourselves enjoy. As you would expect, there are many wine shops here in "wine country Read more »

  • Hi everyone, just found this site last night.  I'm a disillusioned attorney seriously considering a change in career.  As I love wine (and the food service industry as a whole), I'm curious what the training and career path looks like for a sommelier.  I've seen organizations that give exams for accreditation, but I'm thinking it requires some s... • Orin Swift Papillon Napa Valley 2007

    Snoothrank:

95 points. This wines aroma is extremely concentrated with deep, dark smoke and black stone aromas at first. The cloud of initial darkness gives way to bramble fruit, rose vines, and exceptional dark fruit tones. There is an impression of sea fog, blueberry preserves, cigar wrappers, and the softest touch of cacao powder. The palate opens with in... Read More

  • Tomorrow is the first Monday of 2011 and my article on Burgundy for France Today is due... I also need to work on a 2009 vintage report for Harpers Wine & Spirit. But allow me just to reflect on a marvelous Chateau Eglise Clinet Pomerol 1989 whose plum and spice richness matched a New Year's Day prime rib of beef perfectly. Or how about a delecta... Read More

  • Cabernet Sauvignon: It’s one of the big daddies of the wine world, and the wines from California, in particular Napa Valley, can compete with the best, and have the price tags to prove it. We can lament the change that has occurred with the vast majority of Napa Cabernets over the past decade or two, or we can simply continue to look for quality... Read More

  • With the shift to fall in full swing, it’s time to start looking at some specific wines. While I made some general recommendations in my recent Types of Wine article, I thought now would be a good idea to see what’s on the shelves.Even though it’s getting cooler I’m still not ready to surrender the summer and embrace full-throttle wines, though ... • ‘Hey, I’m hearing great things about the Finger Lakes,’ spoken by the collective ‘they.’ Sure, I’d tasted a bottle of Konstantin Frank or two, but embarrassingly had never visited. Summer heat finally drove me to the car, down past the paper trail of Scranton, PA’s ‘The Office,’ north bound to Ithaca, the tail of Cayuga Lake, where all the smart... Read More

  • Would definitely be interested in hearing what people think are the best wineries, and wines, in the Okanagan. Hopefully with an explanation why. Have a good friend going for an extended stay, based in Kelowna, in a month or so, and it'd be nice to be able to offer some pointers. She and her husband drink a lot of New Zealand sauvignon blanc,... Read More

  • One of the top questions I get at Snooth is, "Where are the values?" It’s not surprising that folks are looking for deals, and they usually are interested in their favorite wines, so it’s not surprising that Cabernet Sauvignon values are the most frequent request. With our Global Tasting initiative (GTI) program geared up once again I thought t... Read More
