  • Joseph Cattin 2017

    Snoothrank:

I have always felt that the region of Alsace was the forgotten wine region of France. With Bordeaux, Rhone, Burgundy, and Champagne always in the wine media, Alsace keeps cool and quiet in the background and lets the other regions make all the noise. But Alsace likes it that way and enjoys its small town ways along with its wonderfully unforgett... Read More

  • I had this, last night This is a nice wine.  Initial hit of blackberries seems to diminish after the first sip.  Some slate or mineral sensations under the rear palate.  Very much resolved tannin,  Still some nice supporting acids, though,That Keenan guy needs to drop back here to see the shout-out that I am giving to their wine. • St. Francis Chardonnay 2017

    Snoothrank:

Lovely and crisp for a chardonnay without trying so hard to add particular flavors that come off fake.I actually tried this at Sip 'n Paint (The Wine Cellar at the Rio in Las Vegas). Read More

  • Gnarly Head Old Vine Zinfandel Lodi 2016

    Snoothrank:

This one pours a rusty purple hued tone, with cranberry and blueberry tinges around the outside ring. Also has an oily film that is left on the inside of the wine glass. Aromas that are superbly fruit forward, with jammy sweet berries, vanilla, peppercorn heat, hints of caramel and notes of sweet oak aging. Flavors follow suit, with more swee... Read More

  • Château Lanessan 2015

    Snoothrank:

Translucent dark ruby in the glass. Dark fruit and a touch of leather on the nose. First sip gives some dark fruit then red fruit and tart acidity. A bit flat mid palate with only some slight drying on the finish. I carried this over to my supper and the fruit really popped with Greek salad. This is clearly a food wine and a bit young at that. • Over the years I have posted here on Snooth about wines that my brother-in-law has found in the course of his business of the disposition of estates.  Last weekend he gave me a stash that looked like it might have some potential.  The first three that I opened did not really make the grade.1995 Alexander Valley Bordeaux Blend-- knew this one was... • Last night we had a Spanish wine night (With the exception of a Vinho Verde opener.)The verde I mentioned - light, a little effervescence, peach, citrus, melon - just what it should be.The Tarima Monastrell was next.  For a $9 bottle of wine this really packed a bang.  After the butterscotch  blew off it really shined.Next was 2008 Vina Ardanza ... • Adding sugar to wine will make it taste sweet I know, too simplistic, but since taste is a personal choice sweeter may be a good or bad thing. If you like sweet wines you an open a bottle, decant it, add sugar to taste and then enjoy every sip. There is no “law” that says you can’t do that.Having said that let me discuss a situation where the ad... Read More

  • 2016 Talbott Logan Sleepy Hollow Vineyard14.2% ABV Ruby red tinged with garnet at the edges. Medium light in weight. Pretty and well made wine. I get a strong hit of cherry cola on the first sip followed up with some sour cherry as the acid comes to life and finishes with some cranberry notes with a touch of bitterness. I think this wine would b... Read More
