  • Tantalus Riesling 2018

    Snoothrank:

Everything is a matter of taste, right? Well, it is the same with Tantalus: the 2018 Riesling is the same clean, electric, mouth reveille of Granny Smith and citrus acidity on the palate. Perhaps slightly tamed. But still not exactly for the faint of heart, yet quite for the connoisseur. Will age nicely for at least 5-7 years, but perfect now ... Read More

  • Tantalus Riesling 2014

    Snoothrank:

Aerated at Marquis Wines using the usual skullduggery, this wine was a wonderful Granny Smith Apple on the nose and palate - as expected - with the normal tartness. At home, the wine is muted, but savory - with less forward notes as just described. Very Tantalus with bracing acidity and cleansing Malus Domesticus (apple) flavour. 89 points. Read More

  • Tantalus Riesling 2013

    Snoothrank:

This latest edition of the reputed Tantalus Riesling has a slightly more dense nose of icing sugar sprinkled over pear, apricot and green apple; the mouth-feel is viscous, Mosel-like with citrus (noted with this producer), honey, peach and apricot mid-palate with more sweetness than in past vintages. Finish is fresh, acidic and lingering. Bett... Read More

  • Tantalus Riesling 2012

    Snoothrank:

Finally, a truly balanced Tantalus Riesling. The gentle pear and MacIntosh Apple nose is followed - on entry - by a (still) bracing grapefruit-like acidity - which is a good thing - but this factor is balanced by much heavier fruit and viscosity. The wine is British Columbia for sure but has cross elements of Rheingau and Alsace on the finish.... Read More

  • Tantalus Vineyards Riesling Okanagan Valley Vqa 2010

    Snoothrank:

Already losing its youthful flowery bouquet, the 2010 Tantalus Riesling is beginning to pick up the petrol and stewed white fruit on both nose and palate without losing its full-strength citrus-like acidity. Very refreshing on the palate but more serious and best with food. A bit more pH balance would push this wine into 90 point country. 88 po... Read More

  • Tantalus Vineyards Riesling Okanagan Valley Vqa 2008

    Snoothrank:

This slightly more distinguished Tantalus offering (vinification tied to a 34 year old block of Riesling) has a smidge more nuanced character than the mainstay product: the nose is showing some aging with notes of gasoline and stewed stone fruit infused with peach cordial. The palate receives a one-two punch of bracing acidity and more stone fru... Read More

  • Tantalus Vineyards Riesling Okanagan Valley Vqa 2009

    Snoothrank:

Another delightful expression of Riesling from the Okanagan Valley of British Columbia. The nose is of fresh tropical flowers and similarly situated white fruit with a touch of peach and ginger spice. The entry is equally pleasing with tart acidity that promises some aging potential. The only demerit is a bit too much attention to acidity and... Read More

  • Would definitely be interested in hearing what people think are the best wineries, and wines, in the Okanagan. Hopefully with an explanation why. Have a good friend going for an extended stay, based in Kelowna, in a month or so, and it'd be nice to be able to offer some pointers. She and her husband drink a lot of New Zealand sauvignon blanc,... Read More

  • Tantalus Vineyards Riesling Okanagan Valley Vqa 2008

    Snoothrank:

This edition of Tantalus Riesling is very similar to the 2007: lively acidity with some spice and plenty of apple, pear and tropical fruit on the nose. Overall, the balance is better with a bit of residual sugar to offset the tartness. Good BC Riesling and worth cellaring for a few years. Read More

  • Tantalus Vineyards Riesling Okanagan Valley Vqa 2007

    Snoothrank:

Riesling is currently under-performing in British Columbia - this in spite of its proven adaptability to the local climate. But the Tantalus 2007 is a good example of what the variety can do in BC; there are beautiful spice, green apple, pear and wooden match-stick notes on the nose with cleansing acidity on the palate. Though a bit out of bala... Read More
