For years Pam and I were frustrated trying to find truly great wine. Selecting a decent bottle of wine from thousands of pretty labels with prices ranging from $5-$35 was difficult at the best of times. We were always happiest with wine recommendations from friends. So, that's what we wanted to do with The California Wine Club, start a wine of the month club that was just like "one friend recommending a great bottle of wine to another friend". We are now celebrating 20 years of business and the wine adventures keep getting better! Pam and I knew that there were hundreds of small, family-owned wineries dedicated to producing exceptional wine ... and it was this wine that we wanted to share with our monthly wine club members. Each month we travel California's wine country searching out the wineries, meeting the families and tasting the wines that never make it to local stores or wine shops. This is why it was so easy to guarantee that our wine of the month club members and gift recipients will never receive Read more »

  • @EMark, try to meet up with Darren on May 2nd if he can take the time (of course, speak for yourself, Darren).  If I am in town (we are planning seriously to buy in Victoria), I will try to link up as well.  You might want to link up for a dinner and wine or whatever is determined later this year on the "Face to Face Club" thread.  The idea at t... • I agree with you both - if we are talking about entry-level, everyday wines - or whatever we wish to classify the cheaper juice as.  Chile, Argentina, and the other areas mentioned are cheaper - at all quality levels.  California prices are high for a host of easily understandable economic reasons, as well as branding (Napa, Sonoma, maybe certai... • Jeeze Greg....I think you might need an attitude adjustment.  How many guys who drink the kind of wine you do and live in California can honestly say, "life sucks"?  I'm kidding, but I hope things stabilize. We can come to LA.  It's probably easier than SF.  Hey, if you're in a pinch, you can always come live with me.  I have a couple friends who... • I like what I'm told is referred to a "jammy" wine. One example is Altmura. I know it's not sweet however to me it has somewhat of a sweet taste. Any recommendations of some wine to try?   Read More

  • This Topic is partially intended to start a new thread on daily wine drinking as the earlier topics are just too long and too general.  How about telling us more about your choices and helping me start a new thread for the next generation, so to speak?  The "why" is the interesting part for some of us - but pictures are always welcome; after all... • As a long-time resident of Philadelphia, trips to “Wine Country” for me consisted of a lengthy flight, usually in the neighborhood of 6-7 hours. I would either head west, to one of the many regions in California, Oregon, or Washington. Or, I would fly east, heading across the Atlantic to one of the countless wine regions in Europe. It was not unt... Read More

  • Hasn’t it? When we started Snooth back in 2007, rosé was not such a hot button topic. Its growth over the past eleven years is astounding. Nielsen reports that sales of still rosé have risen sixty-five percent since last year. Sparkling rosé sales jumped by sixteen percent. The funny thing is, we can assume that prior to direct pressing most all... Read More

  • These are not exactly bought...I give a bottle to each member of our wine club each year.  I expect nothing in return, it's a gift to say thank you for their participation.  This year they surprised me in a big way - last night at our annual Christmas party where we exchange gifts (er - bottles).Never had, nor heard of the 2016 19 Crimes Banishe...
