  • Blaufränkisch is a Cabernet lover’s best friend, but still very much ... with stunning lake views. The vineyard itself was once the garden of a famous Kaiser who lived in a nearby castle called Schloss Halbturn. It still stands today, hence the name Kaiserberg. The grapes were hand-harvested, and it shows on the palate. Red cherry and strawberr... Read More

  • It is a chilly, sunny February afternoon in Napa Valley.  Tasting rooms ... ... be interested in walking the vineyard.  Bill sent me a map and I noticed it was planted with the Entlav 214 clone that originated in the Loire Valley and thrives in cool sites like Sugarloaf Mountain east.”In his over two decades of experience working with cabernet... • EMark,I could have wine shipped to my in-laws in Seattle.  I'm not looking to do that, but I was interested in the low volume.  I assumed it was a winery, not "virtual winery".  There are some wineries here that produce some really low volume editions.  Typically they'd only be available to wine-club members or at the winery only.  There's one c... •  I love that there are wineries there producing relatively tiny volumes of wine like here. 75 cases in California?  Good luck finding that anywhere!  Buy it only at the winery probably eh? I posted an Apsara not too long ago that had a production of 37 cases.  I order their wines on-line from their website -- -- but I ... • I had a bunch of the guys I ride with and their others over for a barbeque yesterday.  My wife went to a place in Oak Bay village, called the Village Butcher and got a bunch of ribs and put a rub on them on Friday.  She did those and I did chicken and spicy sausages on the barbeque.  People brought all kinds of wonderful additions including a ho... • The Ojai Vineyard Roll Ranch Syrah 2015

Very attractive plum color in the glass. Some "sourness" in the nose. Blackberry and prune on the tip of the tongue. Then some slate. A fairly big wine, especially, when compared to other Ojai reds I've had, lately. Similarly, more tannin than I have seen in recent Ojai wines. I think this wine can improve with several years of aging. On ... Read More

  • We're in Oregon visiting our son and daughter-in-law, heading to Dundee today. We'll be drinking Willamette Valley wine tonight (I know, poor us) most likely from one of the tasting rooms there.  Here's my list of potential downtown Dundee tasting rooms, anyone have any experience with any of these?Antica TerraErath WineryLange Estate WineryLe C... • The Ojai Vineyard Fe Ciega Pinot Noir 2015

Translucent garnet color. Translucence correctly forecasts a relatively light-bodied red wine. Tart red cherry on the tip of the tongue, Some mineral hints farther back. I want to rave about this wine, but there is nothing that jumps out at me. It's just a pleasant, easy-to-drink, uncomplicated wine. Read More

  • I agree that young people seem to be going more toward craft beer and all ... ... ... more about proximity to the vineyards?  I'd say Napa/Sonoma, the many AVA in Washington (and so the population of greater Seattle), BC Okanagan (and the proximity of Vancouver), that people are interested in local wine and they enjoy it and purchase it.  Mei...
