  • Tried another little "sleeper of the vintage" (in the words of the now silent Robert Parker): Chateau Tour Bel-Air (Tradition) 2016 from Fronsac.  This wine is little known to Fronsac lovers (and there are a few), and being 100% Merlot, I think, it is quite soft, supple and luscious.  I would estimate the cost in the US to be about 20 dollars.  ... • Check out my review of the petit chateau (but not petty wine) by Denis Dubourdeau; namely, Chateau Reynon from Cadillac, Cotes de Bordeaux.  This wine compares favourably with the nervy wines of BC or WA from the better, but smaller producers.  I'd like to stack up some BC and WA wines (and perhaps a few from OR, and ON) against these small prop... • Chateau Reynon Rouge 2016

    Snoothrank:

Another so-called "petit Chateau" from Cadillac, but there is nothing "petty" about the efforts of M. Dubourdieu et famille: this deep, opaque wine from a beautiful property punches a long way above its weight; the nose is plummy (Merlot) and smoky with a hint of lignin. The mouthfeel promises several years of future aging possibilities, with a... Read More

  • ...on the other hand, DV, you could try a couple of the regular Bordeaux offerings at about 20-25 dollars; some are delicious and fresh (mostly Merlot dominated or 100% Merlot - such as Saint-Bernard).  The cheapest alternative is Chateau Pey la Tour at about 18 dollars - a perennial resident on the shelves year round.  The current vintages are ... • Well, DV, the Bordeaux Release is the largest ever, I think, with something like 241 product listings.  However, the advertisement was pretty much strictly on their internet site and at various locations set to offer the wines for sale.  To me, the whole operation is amateurish and stuck on the idea of first come, first served line-ups on the ea... • Tried my 6th 2016 Bordeaux this afternoon after a day of packing (I am moving cities, in case that is not generally known).  Check out the Chateau Ferran 2016 review, if interested.  I chose this wine for its modest price, proximitiy to fine Graves (Pessac) properties and optimistic reviews.  I was not disappointed and definitely recommend it.   Read More

  • Clos l'Abeilley Sauternes 2000

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine for £15 from the www.bidforwine.co.uk website.Sauternes is an appellation created in 1936,although viticulture here goes back centuries, for sweet white wines produced in five communes around the village of that name close to the town of Langon on the west bank of the Garonne river about 20 miles south of the City of ... • Chateau Bolaire Bordeaux Supérieur 2015

    Snoothrank:

This is one of the best Chateau Bolaire with plenty of inky, medicinal Petit Verdot on the nose. The wine presents as black cherry, and enters with a certain chocolate elegance and finish - although somewhat lacking in density and depth. But this is not a fault. Delicious, reasonably priced Bordeaux Superior from Macau. 88. Read More

  • Chateau Arnauld Haut-Medoc Cru Bourgeois 2000

    Snoothrank:

I bought this bottle of wine for £10 from the www.bidforwine.co.uk website.Haut-Medoc is an appellation set upin 1936,although there has been viticulture here for centuries, for red wines produced in 15 communes on the eastern side of the Medoc peninsular stretching nearly 40 miles north of the City of Bordeaux itself. My bottle comes from a well ... • I am currently seeking out some of the better Western Cape wines of S. Africa... for that something different.  However, tonight, after inspecting a new propoerty I purchased on Vancouver Island, I was just to thirsty to look far afield and lighted on this very underrrated wine: Chateau de France 2015.  See review, if interested, on this site.  ...
