The Wine Mine is a unique premium wine “warehouse” in the Temescal district of Oakland with the lowest prices anywhere in the Bay Area. It was established May of 2007 and offers a wide selection of handpicked wines from around the world - from $5 to $105. This is done in a relaxed, but informative, environment where everybody can enjoy the process of picking out wine - be it for a simple meal that evening or something more special for an important get together. We feature fun and informative tastings every Saturday afternoon for only $1 in a convenient location. The environment is intentionally low key reflecting the attitude of the store and the low prices to be found on excellent wines.

  • I don't think there is a legal definition of a "blend" wine, Jack.  It is just a wine made from some combination of grape varieties.  Wine geeks use the nomenclature "Bordeaux Blend" to describe a wine made from some combination of grape varieties that are typically grown in the Bordeaux region,My guess is that very few of the domestic Cabernet ... • Read up on Lindeman's thread, and thought this would be a good topic to discuss. To Greg's point about blending Merlot and sometimes Cabernet in with Chianti blends, I hear that trend had been on the downswing, which is probably a good thing for Chianti proper, though there will be some really good "Super Tuscan's" made from the blending as well.... • You know the wines of Tuscany, sure – but it’s such a blanket term. Drill a bit deeper and there’s a world of hidden gems to discover far beyond the ones you already know. The area around the town of Grosseto, along the Mediterranean coast in southwest Tuscany, is known as Maremma. The coastal location benefits from the region’s prized maritime ... Read More

  • So much good wine... so little time.  Our Spanish tasting elsewhere (away from here) revitalized my interest in these wines.  A couple of friends of mine from Spain (we were students in England) would, from time to time, bring a nice wine (this was about 1985 - when I went back to school for a spell).  I recall one of my French buddies not likin...
