  • Tikves Bela Voda Macedonia 2011

    Snoothrank:

Interesting Macedonian red made from Vranec and Plavec grapes. Big blue and black fruits on the nose with a touch of smoke. Cooked black cherry, prune, a touch of tar, medium acidity, somewhat coarse tannins and a medium finish. This is fairly simple, lacking a mid palate and a bit rough on the edges. Read More

  • "They must be legit because they have a YouTube video for their ... their wine heritage. "Tikves is very real and legit. Have had them in Macedonia (forgot in an earlier post in another thread about them that I'd been there--that was a crazy trip), Greece and Montenegro. OT seems happy in his entrenched provincialism. I suppose if you had to d... Read More

  • Lagier-Meredith, another one to add to my must try list.Last night was a ... ... of vranek and kratosija by Tikves. Medium light body but big on the red fruit. First impression is dried cranberry, rhubarb and black cherry.  This is followed by medium grained tannins and fairly nice acidity.  The finish is dry and kind of earthy.  There's a goo... Read More

Interesting red blend of vranek and kratosija from Macedonia. Medium light body but big on the red fruit. First impression is dried cranberry, rhubarb and black cherry. This is followed by medium grained tannins and fairly nice acidity. The finish is dry and kind of earthy. There's a good bit going on here, very nice QPR. Read More

  • Same price for the Tikves Vranec at KLWines. The description there likens it to a cross between California Zinfandel and something from the southern Rhone.I've had Vranac in Montenegro, but not the Macedonian version (spelled with an 'e'). Had several different styles, many bold (name means 'black stallion' after all), some quieter, usually lots... Read More

  • Tikve Vranec "Special Selection" 2011

    Snoothrank:

This is an interesting and different red from Macedonia. Chewy, grainy tannins go along with somewhat sour blueberry and cranberry tart. Fairly long finish and a medium of acidity. Will be interesting to see how the rest of the bottle tastes after a day or two of air. Read More

  • Tikve Rkaciteli "Special Selection" 2012

    Snoothrank:

Very interesting diversion with this excellent Macedonian Rkaciteli. Starts out like a laid back well made sauv blanc but then ends with some nice ripe peach and really nice acidity on the back end with a fairly lengthy finish. This is going to the top of my quality vs price list. Read More
