This is a Cotes de Boug wine, I believe - though not one I am familiar with from tasting experience.  Apparently, it has been receiving fairly good reviews in recent years.  If you liked this wine, I would look for the 2009 later this year (superior vintage).

Any news on the price you paid for the wine and where you purchased it?

Also, it's probably not the perfect match for spaghetti and meatballs in a tomato ragu. For that food combination, look more for something like a sangiovese from Toscana (chianti, brunello, etc.) or a nebbiolo (barbaresco, barolol, etc.) from Italy. They have more acid to match up to the tomato attack.

Glad you liked the Bordeaux, though. Remember your experience with it now, then drink the next three at two year intervals and note the difference.

Viva la difference! Ain't wine fun?  ;-)

There are more than one Chateau Lamothe, one being a 2nd cru classe Sauterne and another a cru bourgous Haut Medoc neither of which are yours. It is possible that yours is the same one I reviewed the 1985 vintage of for Snooth a while back although the label is different It is a typical merlot dominated right bank claret.I would also remember that Chateau Lamothe was not the only winner of a silver medal in that yearly competition
