Chateau Margaux 2007

Posted by StevenBabb, Mar 4, 2011.

I may be comming across a bottle of '07 Margaux, and I wanted to get the forum's thoughts...

I know '07 wasn't as good as '05, but at this point, beggers can't be choosers...

has anyone tried it? what do you think the range will/should be in the cellar?

thanks for your thoughts....

I think Margaux tends to make some of the finest Bordeaux, year in and year out. I have not tasted the 07, but have fairly recent experiences with the 02, 02, and 99 which is possibly the closest vintage for comparisons sake.

I would be happy to have a few bottles of the 07 Margaux in my cellar. The 99 is just begining to show well and probably has another decade of peak drinking left. It's elegant and fresh with purity and aromatics that are incresingly rare in Bordeaux.

Being a lighter vintage I could see the 07 drinking well already but expect it will go through a tough period, maybe not really shut down though, for a period. The 10 year rule fo thumb, from the vintage, seems like a good one to observe here.

I also haven't had a '07 Margaux yet, but judging by everyone else's '07 I've had from their vicinity, it will be worth drinking. As Greg says, if you only have one bottle, don't pop the cork until you've laid it down for several years.

I also haven't tried the 07, but damn, I love Margaux.  Just sayin'.

i'm definitely going to have it lay down for quite a while.... which isn't usually an easy thing for me to do ; )

What kind of price tag does it have? That would impact my decision, if I were you...
