Dodged a MAJOR Bullet... 2012 is better than 2013 in Oakville. Whew..

I dodged a MAJOR Bullet vs. my wine ventures.

Results are in and 2012 Oakville Cult Wines are superior and more collectable than 2013 Oakville Cult Wine ,, whew.. Invested. - William ; the photo courtesy of Adam Lee of Siduri Wines.

Funny, '13 scored higher than '12 across the board.

You need to be much more specific or this conversation will go nowhere.

At this point or comparing the 2012 to 2013's at the same point in time I prefer the 2012's across the board for California Cabs. Now this may change down the road...... I went deep on both vintages!

OT - ever the optimist!

For me, I'm excited that William dropped by!

At least you've made a decision William. It's a good trait.

Another incoherent Willie D drive-by! LOL

'13 produced more structured wines. It would be silly to make declarations about it at this point in time. Just satin'

That's why I'm enjoying my 2012's now and allowing the 2013's to rest. Let's hope all that structure comes around to something good.

William D, would be interesting to hear: 1) your shortlist of Oakville cults, and 2) how the 'results are in' at this very early date. These your tasting impressions or something else?

DM-As OT stated this is another drive by so wishful asking..........

Actually, MJET, William is a longterm regular, generally guaranteed to provide interest and entertainment. He never is all that wordy, though, and is sometimes cryptic, and also sometimes  does answer such questions. He's a somm or a maitre d' in a French restaurant down your way who may also do some drink-and-posting, too.  ;-)

Oh DM!  Bill is going to lambaste you!  He works at Barolo.

Mjet, he intermittently posts and is consistently laconic and incoherent, but we love him and he's spawned what became some of the most entertaining threads ever.

Remember the hate for seagulls and the Vega?  Great stuff!

I think it's great that he thinks the 12 is better than the 13.  I think Cab is better than Pinot.  But you're right, given time they might be equally great or the 13 may end up far superior.

Yep, some of the best theads ever were spawned by the musings or our boy Bill. Mjet - if you want to read one of my favorite threads ever, check out the pharaoh thread.

You mean Barolo the French wine? Good name for a French restaurant! At least I didn't say 'steak restaurant in Tampa.'

My abject apologies, Willie D. Once again posting without thinking, a bad habit on my part. BTW, is 'Willie' OK? My dad was variously Willam R., Bill, Willy, or Mac. Willy was for his closest family (of the same generation or above, certainly not for his kids).

Oh, and how's the weather?

So is this the place?

Drive By Post.

I was born William Richard. have been Billy, never Willy and currently William (funny association)

Weather: Finally 88 degrees in North Palm

Side note:  I too personally prefer a solid Sonoma Pinot over Oakville Cabernet however,

***** Oakville Cab's bring the Ching. as in Ching Ching $.

My research on 2012-2013 Oakville collectables and drinkers/ futures : Mostly wine(dot)com Oakville reverse search High then Low pricing and scores.

The usual suspects (Wine Police) you know the Labels.  Colgin/Swift/Nickel/Hobbs etc.etc.

60 percent for the next 3 days and I am supposed to fish offshore tomorrow and Wednesday. 2-4 and 5ft seas. But its just a weather forecast. Today was BEAUTIFUL 88 degrees breezy without a cloud in sight.

And yes this is the Cellar at Barolo; where I work as Sommelier, and not my personal stash.. but we do have Cult PN not on the list and only 2 Oakvilles with Phelps Insignia 2013 on the way. (October)

Pinot's in the cellar now.

2012 Sea Smoke 10 and Southing, 2012 Siduri Rosellas and Keefer, and 2013 Pappaiertro 777 Clones and Pommard Clones respectfully.

Five foot seas isn't that bad, unless you're confined to cabin. Problem is whether the fish will be around with that much chop. Maybe more fun just to cruise at speed riding the edge of the troughs and burn fuel enjoying the wind in the hair and the speed, giving the fish a holiday.  ;-)

How well do you like Sea Smoke? PM me if that's more discreet.

My dad was William Robert. His dad was called 'R.C.' (for Robert Clinton). Somehow they liked using initials in that family. I always thought 'Willy' was kinda cute, and in later years could still get a rise out of him when I used it. 'Mac' was for work, in a military contractor context, and comes from the family name. Strangely enough that's what all the Japanese staff called me later when I was working in the Japanese equivalent of Bell Labs for many years.
