Funky White Wines, funky as is quirkily cool & good, not funky as in bad

Posted by Manoavino, May 5, 2010.

My wife Diana loves very interesting white wines. She always challenges the bartenders and the sommeliers we meet to find her something she likes. She describes the the type of wine she likes in a most intereting way, "Diana liked this wine".

One wine she really liked recently was a Grillo called Del Barone by Tenuta di Serramarrocco another she found in Cali recently the sommelier called a "funky" white called Celadon a Grenache Blanc from Topanga Vineyards Esperanza Vineyard Clarksburg.

Do you have a favorite "funky" white wine?

I've really been enjoying Godello, an interesting white from a small region in Spain.  I'd say try any you can find, but in particular I'd recommend Val de Sil.

This is one of the more intruiging whites I've had in recent months: http://www.snooth.com/wine/salarola-igt-veneto-2007/?t=reviews

Here you are.  Beware, most are not in the search index for some reason.   All that work and a good share of my new wine posts are un-findable ...

Well I just spent 35 minutes typing in notes on the best, most interesting non-mainstream whites I've had this year from Greece, Italy, Spain and the Alps. Just evaporated into the ether. Perhaps I'll come back and reprise after I get over my annoyance at the wastefulness. Something similar has happened nearly a dozen times over the past year on this site....
