HAVING SERIOUS FUN WITH OUR WINES!

Posted by amour, Jan 21, 2017.

HAPPY NEW YEAR 2017 TO EVERYONE FROM ME, amour!

It is clearly a great pleasure to re-join you all,  after a long and very busy impasse (and thank the high heavens above, a healthy impasse!)

Lovely to see the wine veterans here in action and equally lovely to meet the new wine lovers on the block!

Here am I, amour, in the photo, at my home, having serious fun with wines! Amour is my SNOOTH screen name since many moons ago.   I am surrounded by a few of the types of wines which my friends enjoy immensely! Some of the wines need to be further cellared, others are ready to go!

Enjoy and respond too!

Will discuss my special preferences in later posts!

In my hands, a chateau bottled wine acquired from a Private Collection.  It is a Saint-Julien 1996 Chateau Leoville Barton, mis en bouteille au chateau.  I do enjoy Saint-Julien!

DID I SUCCEED IN SPARKING INTEREST?

I cannot help but include this....from an article beautifully written by our GREGORY DAL PIAZ....

"WINE SHOULD BE FUN TO DRINK!"  "It should not be an arcane intellectual exercise!"

I will also say, having agreed with GREGORY, of course, that SOME INTELLECTUAL SUBSTANCE WILL ALSO ADD TO THE EXERCISE!

The article by Gregory Dal Piaz, is: 2007 Bordeaux: The Left Bank  August 11, 2010

Amour - welcome back!  It's been way too long, hope you are doing well.  Have you opened that Leovile Barton yet?

Let me add my welcome back, Amour.  You're returning to Snooth with a pretty nice wine.  We look forward to your report on it.

How quick lightning strikes Amour.  I've only been here a few months and occasionally I will go back to the start of old threads to see hoew they started and just yesterday I was looking at one that went back to 2010 and lo and behold there you were -  and today you're here you are! FINE FETTLE was the phrase, I think, that stuck with me.

You comments were interesting then so I can't wait to read your posts now!.

OMG!!!   I just was ready to pop into bed after having....having...no no...not a French wine...SORRY....no no not a Chateau Musar as I mourn the loss of its great winemaker....guess what guys and gals......I HAD A SHOT OF RUM!!!!! That rum is from the Caribbean!! Captain Bligh XO Special Reserve...smooth and velvety indeed.......a WORLD AWARD WINNING RUM from St Vincent & the Grenadines....in the Eastern Caribbean.........That's amour in the photo,  showing off the rum at home in a private setting....the way I roll!!!!Getting the party started on a Saturday night!!!!

SO BEFORE BED...... I SAID.......ok check my 'SO CALLED' friends ON SNOOTH!!!!!!!!SMILE!!!

Thanks for all of your comments...are we ever ONE BIG FAMILY HERE!!!!!!!!!!    oops Gregory told me years ago NOT TO USE CAPS!!!oops...again!!!

TO YOU TOP VINOVINO......I had a 1996 Chateau Leoville Barton Saint-Julian, exactly 2 years ago and I honestly felt that it should have stayed in the bottle longer...but IT WAS DECENT....will get into the precise notes with my substantive offerings up-coming......I drank it with a long time university mate.....actually we go back to childhood....She, Jennifer Piper nee Cumberbatch... married a JERRY PIPER...long time owner of Laguna Auto Parts, well-known business man of Laguna Beach, California for those in that locality........YOU MUST HAVE KNOWN THAT GENEROUS MAN; he, unfortunately, died at 60...in the prime of his life....suddenly......WAS NOT KNOWN TO BE ILL....fell dead at the back of his shop...heart attack....she, Jenny, his wife, visited me and we went through a few wines well!!!

I am saying this in a real meaningful way ......this is what MY THREAD HERE is all about, actually......See...this is an example of how a lovely bottle of wine can really DO WONDERS for the soul.....in other words......WE, Jennifer Piper and I, HAD SERIOUS FUN.........drinking responsibly as usual.    In concluding....THE 1996 Chateau Leoville Barton (Saint-Julian) was not great in my humble opinion BUT IT WAS VERY GOOD INDEED.

EMARK........THANKS & CHEERS...will report!  All the best my dear!

OMG....RCKR 1951........in FINE FETTLE is a bit of an IRISH thing....BTW.......!!!YES!!! I AM IN FINE FETTLE .......LIKE YOU OBVIOUSLY ARE!!!!!!!

Darling OUTTHERE.........so pleasant to be remembered.....look.. we all give a substantial amount of time to carry out THE SNOOTH MANDATE and why not........SNOOTH IS AWESOME!!! AND SO ARE THE WINES!!!!   Thanks to Phillip, our FOUNDER par excellence and Greg and all and Thanks to..... THE FLOOR AS WELL!!!!
See...the rum has me mellow...not at all over the top.....OK CHAMPAGNE QUARTER BOTTLE NOW!!!!HAHA!!!!

Great to see that fettle demonstrated, Amour, and that whatever the impasse was it ended up only being a bump in the road for you. Welcome back.

1996 was a great vintage on the left bank, so sorry to hear that the wine part of that bottle you shared with your bereaved friend wasn't as good as you'd hoped.

If you're still in the Miami area we have a regular now who is in charge of the wine at a French place in West Palm Beach. You might connect with him.

Greg DP very occasionally still shows up here, though he ended his stint as Editor-in-Chief some time ago. Unfortunately nary hide nor hair of Philip for ages now....

SO THEN...YOU are carrying on the show, DMCKER!!!!!

I WILL MAKE THAT CONNECTION....I am in West Palm sometimes with lifelong friend, Lady Nuttall when she visits billionaire Terry Kramer....heiress to the old Allen Bank, New York...that is how I got to know about THE ISRAELI STURGEON FARMS....some good caviar...though I need THE AUTHENTIC CASPIAN!!!

LET US CLOSE FOR NOW ON A HIGH NOTE!   Only to re-convene soon....how I recall your Bandol gems and the way you master left bank right bank talk......CHEERS AGAIN!!!!

Hey, I heard that.  I'm hoping global warming takes care of his estate in Florida, without impacting others around him of course.  I got a picture of his dump in the district (the Old Post Office building); I refuse to go in there.

I do enjoy the French wines, both red and white.  We traveled down the Rhone river on a Viking River Cruise in April of 2015.  Lots of wine flowing on those boats, especially when you share bottles with other guests.

You have clearly not been to London for a while.Earls Court has been knocked down to make way for an upmarket housing development. The France Show has been back at Olympia for the last couple of years
