Introduce Yourself

Hello all - beginner with no real knowledge

Posted by byrn, May 24, 2009.

I'm completely knowledge free about the world of wine. The only things I know have been gleaned from an episode of Columbo and the occasional episode of Oz and James' big wine adventure.

I'm probably just going to lurk around the Beginner forum for a while - stumbled across the site from a guilty desire to know something about the Ghibello Chianti 1997 I'm presently swilling...

Anyway, thought I would post just to say hello.

Welcome aboard. You've taken the first step to learning more just by joining this site. I'm not familiar with Ghibello but love a good Chianti. See you around.

Hi Byrnie,

Welcome to Snooth!

This is a great place to share knowledge and experiences about wine so please let us know what you find out about that Ghibello.

I think you will find this a great place even for newbies, I am never made to feel bad for not having as much knowledge as so many others. You can feel free to ask questions, everyone is very friendly! Welcome.

"stumbled across the site from a guilty desire to know something about the Ghibello Chianti 1997"

Gee, how did that happen. Let's see, you went to Google, looked up the wine and sure enough, this damn site pops up?!

Happens to all of us. Eventually we learn to ignore it . . .

More importantly, why a "guilty" desire? I've rarely heard people use that expression.

When I started drinking wine there weren't all these internet sites with great information. So I surreptitiously kept little notes for myself.

I felt guilty and embarrassed and thought it somewhat shameful, but couldn't stop.

Then I find out that lots of people do it, there is nothing to feel guilty about, and there are plenty of sites on the internet devoted to it.

Anyhow don't feel guilty about your desires. They're natural. Welcome.

Now regarding wine . . .
