Wine Talk

Hello Snooth!

Posted by topochinesvino, Jan 18, 2017.

Hey it's my first time on here - what an adventure! There's more to do here than things to buy at Costco (ie, a lot).

We live in Napa and are starting a wine importing business.  Who needs more wine in Napa you ask?  We think everyone.  My wife and I are both from Europe (Spain and Ukraine) and have extensive wine maker friendships across Spain, Italy and the Balkans.

We moved to Napa in 2014 and have been slowly but purposefully visiting and tasting wines at the 500 or so wineries in the Valley.  We have been writing a blog about life in wine country, you can find it here:  www.topochinesvino.com.  In addition to Napa wineries we frequent Sonoma county wineries as well and just added Oregon to our list (one of our kids is at the Univ of Oregon in Eugene) and have made several lasting friendships with winemakers in Willamette Valley.  Recent trips have been to Rogue Valley to check out that growing region.

We also hit Italy, Slovenia, Croatia and Bosnia this Fall and came away amazed by the quality of wines being made in the Balkans.

John

AMOUR -  One tip that I have is to visit places that are not in the guidebooks. I love Mondavi and Castello di Amoroso as much as the next person. But I really love discovering that out of the way wineries that most people don't get to visit. Places like Vincent arroyo, Y Rousseau, Holman Cellars, and Twenty Four Wines.

While visiting Slovenia back in October, we had one of the most amazing experiences at Kabaj winery. Not only do they have fantastic wines, they also serve lunch. We had a 4 1/2 hour five course lunch, each course paired with wine.
