Hi Mat,

Welcome to Snooth.

We're all just a bunch of winelovers here!

Welcome Mat

Only been a member for a short while.

All the 'Winelovers' on here have been a great help and they know their stuff.

MatNova - nobody's an expert on anything.

Well, maybe Greg DP. I genuflect reflexively every time I see his pic.

But post something and see what sticks.  Welcome.

Greetings, Mat!  I'm fairly new to the site myself, so you're in good company because I'm just beginning my learning journey of wine and the like.  Hope to 'see' ya around!

People here are really modest.  I think GregT, SH, dmcker, GDD are experts in a broad range of areas, just to name a few, and NapaGirl, outthere and HondaJohn have lots of very deep experience with California wines, particularly.  But the world of wine is so big that hardly anyone can be an expert in all of it.  Which is why it's ideal for a site like this--I can ask SH anything about Aussie wines, GregT about Spanish wine and his opinions about "drink now" wines, Parkerization, whether wine is worth what we pay for it... and get a great answer and a few laughs in the process. You'll see pretty soon what people like, what they "specialize in," what they are getting interested in.

And one thing I have definitely learned here is that, the more I know about wine, the more I realize how much there is to know that I don't.  Which is why it will never get dull.

So jump in and comment on threads and let's get an idea of what you like, what you have tasted, what you want to try. Don't neglect some of the old threads--people pick them back up after years sometimes.

not new and still not near expert but what better a place to come if you love wine?  so many levels and range of knowledge here you can't go wrong asking anything on any level!  everyone is cool with humour and insite.  ask anything...someone once said to me" the only dumb question is the one you don't ask"!  ask, ask, and then ask another question!  you won't feel like you should not have asked here.

Foxall hit it on the head with

'the world of wine is so big that hardly anyone can be an expert in all of it.

And GregT kids. Seriously though, some of us have had more time to devote to something we are passionate about. I think one of the nice things about the community we are building here is that we all want to share and no one is going to tell you that you are wrong and they are right because they are an 'expert' or have some silly credentials. Wine is so personal that there really is only one rule: If you like it, it is good wine. So let's hear what you like!

Just joined this site/thread today.........very little knowledge of wines, just a guy who buys mostly cabs, shiraz, pinots and has a distaste for most whites.  Stephen Harvey.....if you see this, what do you know/think about Yangarra Shiraz from Australia?

Wine appreciation is a sensual affair - something wonderfully convivial, poetic and tending to the informed subjective.  Your love of wine is shared by millions - not always for the same reasons or with the same intensity of emotion - but shared all the same.  Enter the community without apology and enjoy the sometimes rational meanderings of life-long lovers of wine.  Welcome.

Welcome to Snooth.  I have to say that this has been a great website and forum for learning about wine.  There is lots of great information and lots of variety and expertise from the folks that post on the forum.

Don't be shy, ask lots of questions and you will get tons of good answers back.

Cheers!

Roz, maybe you just haven't tried the "right" whites.  There are some truly amazing ones.  Feel free to ask for recs.  ;)

Roz

Yangarra is a McLaren Vale maker.  I have not tried their most recent wines, but from memory they are a solid example of McLaren Vale wines.

Pete Fraser has a good reputation for making quality wines.  I will try and get hold of one and give you some feedback
