Details for Louis M. Martini Syrah Sonoma Valley Monte Rosso Vineyard 2006

I have my own tasting notes but would like some expanded tasting notes to compare mine with. The notes on the winery website are limited.

Hey Princess,

I haven't tried the 06 Martini Syrah but ithe 04 was a pretty fine example of California Syrah, and from vines that had only just started to produce fruit, 4 years old I think. Monte Rosso produces elegant wines with a dense core of fruit that lack the flamboyance of some other vineyards. The cool hillside location and iron rich soils produce dome of the finest fruit in Sonoma for both Zinfandel and Cabernet so it's no surprise that syrah works well up there. The one example I had was very well balanced, full of earthy, brambly blackberry fruit gently accented with spicy earth and wood tones. It was a bit chewy and dense without being weighty or over-extracted. I certainly enjoyed and look forward to trying it again in the future!
