Napa Trip- Day 3- 4/20/10

Posted by VegasOenophile, May 3, 2010.

My friend had lined up a special VIP tasting at Beringer's Rhine House, but we had some time before our appointment, so we stopped in to St. Supéry on our way up north.  I had tasted a couple of their wines and was curious to taste through their catalogue, so we stopped in.

It's a surprisingly industrial looking facility, but nicely appointed in the tasting room.  We tasted their

We then went to Beringer and met with Dean, who led us around the property, showing us the Beringer brothers' houses, telling us the history of the estate.  We got a thorough tour of the Rhine House, room by room and our tasting was at a table in one of the upstairs bedrooms.  This tasting was not only about tasting Beringer's Private Reserve wines and vineyard specific wines, but about properly pairing foods with wine, as we explored the different zones of taste on our palates and how they each affect how the wine tastes.  Spectacular wines and a very interesting and informative lesson in making food and wine work together and avoiding common mistakes.  Here we tasted their

We then stopped in at the Refresher (now renamed Gott's Roadside) in St. Helena for a tasty burger and fries.  This seems like a staple in the area, so we felt compelled to give it a try.  Yum.

I then called Allison, who I'd met at a tasting and who reps Pavi.  She was to meet us at Napa Wine Company's "Cult Wine Central" in St. Helena.  There we tasted

Pouring in the room was a guy wearing a Michael Pozzan vest.  I had remembered drinking a great Carneros chardonnay and pinot noir called Anabella by Michael Pozzan as well as the Pozzan label cab.  All stellar and great values as they're under $20.  Turns out it was Michael's son.  Small world.

We then has arranged a tasting at Flora Springs' "The Room".  This is a great, modern facility pouring the Flora Springs catalogue in a hip, relaxed atmoshpere and we had a great tasting attendant who made our evening a real blast!  Some great wines to boot.  We had the

Being that Whitehall Lane was open later, we stopped in there next to wrap up our day.  They had a crowd in there so I felt guilty for getting there about 20 minutes before closing, but we got our pours.  I had recently had a great chardonnay of theirs, so I wanted to check out the rest of their wines.  We tasted
