Never heard from you on this D, what do you like with your turkey outside of Pinot Noir, Beajolais?

Champers, White Burg, Languedoc?

Quick pass thru a neighborhood store turned up two CBs, both pricey. Brouilly has been drinking better for me than Fleurie over the years but I like the extra couple years on the F.  I may try this one.

Go Fleurie here, much better vintage...

A couple of posts in this Thanksgiving wine matching thread from a few years back.  Also in this, too.

Was another post for another year I'll try to dig up...

Not what I was looking for, but BLM, you might like this old sparkling wine thread...

DM- Was a time long ago when the very inexpensive Cooks Grand Reserve Extremely Dry was pouring very well. Method Charmat. I have not sampled it for a couple decades. BUT I found a couple of old bottles purchased 1993-5 that may be total shit but then who knows? Will open one in the next days. Have one sitting in the refrigerator ready to go.

BLM, what are you setting next to it as backup?  ;-)

A friend asked me to pick up some bottles for use this Thanksgiving. Had to go Tokyo bricks and mortar, and had little time today. Went on what I know he and the crowd likes and what I know of the menu (some shellfish and sashimi starters then straight into the big bird and heavy sides, with some duck also in the mix). Bottles already delivered to his place where they'll be resting upright until Wednesday (holiday here is on the 23rd).

Now looks like the reds will be a '96 Cheval Blanc and a couple of '83 Gruaud Laroses following a couple of 2010 Rostaing La Landonnes (which will be decanted starting around noon) and a couple of 2010 Gaja Barbarescos (slightly less but plenty of decant). Whites before that will start with a brace of Valentin Leflaive blanc de blancs extra brut, then a couple of windfall (never expected to find them) 2005 Nicholas Potel Chablis Grand Cru Valmur and then two each of a couple of Olivier Leflaive Chassagne Montrachet premier crus (Les Chaumees and Les Vergers, a 2010 and 2012 each). Dessert to be a couple bottles of 1996 Chateau Guiraud sauternes, and some yet-to-be-clarified spirits. If I know him he'll probably sneak a couple of Didier Dagenaux Silexes into the mix, but I'll try to ensure they're at the beginning, rather than after dessert as he's been known to do.  ;-(

The guy's a Brit (bankerwanker)--go figure (he likes his partying, most any excuse). And he's not a Burgundy fan, though I will be changing that, just not this meal.

Have a separate meal on the weekend with my daughters, but that will be smaller and quieter, and likely go Burgundy for both white and red, probably only a bottle each.

DM- agree with your pessimism on the old Cooks, why I did not open it since finding it 3 months ago. Taking space in the fridge. Backup is $20 bottle of champagne from TJ that I have not tried before. Reviews place it as slightly off dry which does not excite me if true. It may be "taste your turds" night. Your Thanksgiving wine sounds like a great lineup, and the meal too!

PS backup to the backup is a crémant that I am confident will be acceptable.

Nice lineup there D, unfortunately I won't have much help in drinking this year. Will still open a nice bottle or two. Probably a young red burg and champagne.

"Taste Your Turds", sounds like a great theme for an offline. Anyone want to host?  ;-)

I already got a headstart (see my post today in OT's 'Whatcha Drinkin' thread), though they weren't my bottles...
