New site mockups : Snooth 2.0

Posted by Philip James, Jun 20, 2008.

Clint has been playing around with a new more open template for the site and we wanted to get your feedback on what you thought.

Here it is:

Changes include:
- Cleaner top bar navigation
- Persistent global search bar (find wines, friends, anything)
- Space on the right (instead of the left) for additional modules
- Brighter fresher feeling!

Let us know, we'd love to hear your feedback

So the sage green background is going? I like it... A little too much white on screen, maybe?
The logo looks cleaner without the "talk balloon" around it. You are keeping the brandy snifters and the non-moving liquid in them... I still think these glasses don't match the vibe of the site (I'm an opinionated brat. Single-child syndrome, you see...)
The top bar navigation is a great idea
You guys really put a lot of work into the site; keep up the great work!

Like the top bar ... right side module space looks orphaned right now. Bottom of the page is still busy.

Otherwise, I like it. :-)

We've caught some consistent flak for the brandy snifter glasses. Maybe there's some room for improvement there.

I agree with Honda that the footer stands out too much. I love the toned down colors.

I understand what you are saying about the footer being busy... but it does provide a ton of useful info that you REALLY want to make accesible and let's face it, not a lot of scrolling down to that point happens anyways, so it dcoesn't clutter anybody's screen unless they are looking for the bottom...
Just a thought...

I like it and agree that it might be a bit too much white on the page. I like the green background. I also agree about the brandy snifters, seems like there could be a more appropriate picture. All in all a real improvement.

yeah, you tell'em oceank8!
Who else is with me?

Haha - well we'll at least have realistic liquid in the snifters, which will make them look less static.

Now the contest has been launched, we're freed up a bit to get back to work on this and the legendary group pages (only 6 months of us toying with the idea, we were worried they'd never get built for a while).

Hmmm. Was something wrong with the 'old' Snooth? I love my Snooth the way it is. If we're talking enhanced functionality, fine, I am all for it, but log my vote for design status quo.

Hey Agent Red!

There was nothing totally wrong with the 'old' snooth, but we want to work in a few very important features (universal search, better positioning for the merchant select etc) so while we were at it, Clint, our designer started tinkering...

Can the items be moved around a little to make room to display my cellar or my wished wines?

Maybe the trophy case can be positioned to the right of the photo to accomodate?

Reply by Philip James, Jul 4, 2008.

Ryan - at first we hadnt planned on supporting moving the modules around. However, yes eventually we'd like to work the trophy items onto the right of the image

hipergas - we finally updated the logo - tell us what you think...

you may need to ctrl + refresh to see it

Yes! Please, fill that wasted space at the top of the page!

I'm on my... um... eighth cocktail of the evening at the moment, so that's about the level of salience that I can manage at the moment, but I like this, conceptually.

A little premature in your NYE celebrations?

Reply by gr, Jan 1, 2009.

Celebration, pah. That's just vacation drink.

For NYE, I lost track of which drink took me into double digits, but I'm certain that I started at 13:30 2008-12-31 and finished at 02:30 2009-01-01.

Like the new layout... agree re. Brandy Balloon type glasses though. Must be able to find more wine-type glasses for a wine site?? Personally, I like white back-grounds

Reply by Gregory Dal Piaz, Jan 2, 2009.

Well the wine geek in me likes the fact that at least the glasses have big bowls and aren't over-filled!

Brandy snifters are the original Reidel Burgundy O's, before they made those midget glasses. I have friends who still use snifters for Burgundy dinners.

The liquid now moves, it looked like we were serving ice originally
